Haha, Hi, it's the newb again.

I just saw a beautiful build log by Saintsman of for one, the SFII.

He didn't use pins for the planking, but on other build logs I saw people used filler blocks (I assume that is what they are; the wood that people put between ribs). I'm assuming this is for a broader area to pin down per plank?

What kind of wood is it? And is my assumption correct?

I'm not at all opposed to pins, but I must say, no pin builds do look beautiful.

Regards,
Francois

hi francois the filler blocks are there for a smoother curve with the planks and yes for more space to stick too and the wood i used was balsa and i didnt use pins to plank just super glue on the edge of the previous plank and on the rib

Hi Francois! Cool

You don't pin into the filler blocks, you only pin into the ribs. As benny said these blocks help you to get the shape of the hull correct and strengthens the hull the plus side is you get more surface area to glue. As I double planked the hull, I pined the first layer of planks then cut the heads off and filed the sharp ends down, the second layer of 0.5mm plank are just glued with contact adhesive, this covers the pins.
