Hi,

Some background....

My grandfather built his own ships from scraps of wood etc and I remember his study being full of them which are sadly long since lost, I don't think they were a representative of the real vessels I think he just "made them up" as it where, but even so I've always wanted one of my own. With the shop brought ones running into the thousands (for a nice one anyway) this is probably the best and perhaps only way I can get hold of one and of course it will be nice to take a trip down memory lane and follow in his footsteps to build my own.

Why the USS Constitution well in all honesty I'm just simply going of looks Blushing she has the kinda style that he used to build so it was the ideal choice for me.

As you should know by now I have zero experience but I'm willing to give it a go and have already amassed a mini library of books, youtube and model-space links to help me on my way.

So I can't wait to get started, I'll try not to bug you chaps with to many questions.......

May.

First question if you don't mind?

I'm going to start to put together a small tool box - what would you chaps recommend I pick up first?

Thanks May,

May, Good look with the build, will follow your progress

As for the tools get your basics and then add as you go.

basics for me are a set of good knifes, X-acto I would recommend personally. a razor saw, set of mini files, some assorted grit sand paper, two fine point tweezers, pack of wooden pegs for clamping, and a good steel rule with at least 0.5mm increments. thats the basics you need

Hope you have some enjoyment from this one.

I will be interested to see how you get on.

From what i have seem i believe Andy P is doing the official build so follow along with him and i am sure you will turn out a very nice model.

Hi,

Thank you for your kinds words gents,

On the morning of my finals at Uni, what seems like an age ago now, my grandfather phoned me and gave me some advise which was "if you try your best you can't possibly fail" I think that's going to be a fitting moto for this build.

Thanks again for all of your help

May.

Hi,

The latest addition to my library arrived this morning, not had the chance to have to much of a look at it yet but from the "flick though" I had it looks as though it's going to be of a great help, loads of detailed information and diagrams etc.
