Hey guys, In anticipation of the release of the USS Constitution I was wondering if you guys could point me in the direction of a decent wooden ship kit I could build in the mean time. I have never tackled a wooden model before. I love the look and the lines of the Cutty Sark but, I don't want to waste hundreds of dollars and screw it up beyond repair. So some advice for a novice wooden ship builder would be greatly appreciated. Nothing terribly easy, I need some challenge for my problem solving skills Thanks in advance. Best Regards, Ron

Would agree with Andy in his post above and would probably select the Swift as a first build. Pemberg is also doing a build diary on this kit as per the instructions so you'd have a step by step guide available for you to follow and any assistance you need from members.... .. Also, its not a painful kit for the wallet..... Regards Alan

Ok... Decided to go with the Virginia as my first wooden model. Will order it in a couple of days. As it is not available on the US DeAgostini website I will have to order it from a different source. Yes, I know there is International shipping but... I can get free shipping here and I wont have to wait for who knows how long for it to ship from the UK, go through customs, ship to my house... could take weeks. Hobbylinc here in the US carries it: https://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/lat/lat22135.htm
There are a lot of Artesania Latina models offered here in the US. As well as other bits and pieces and tools. https://www.hobbylinc.co...tina-wooden-model-ships
Thanks for the help guys. Cheers Best Regards, Ron

Thanks for the help guys. Cheers Ron Not sute what your modelexpo could do for you but i get their emails here in the uk and they seenm to have permanent discounts and free shipping and the like. I think they handlle some of the artesania so might pay you to have a quick look. Living in the uk i have used them and cannot fault their service its top notch. Happy Modelling

Tony: Thanks for the heads up on Modelexpo. I am a member of Hobbylinc and with my discount its the cheapest place that sells the model and I get points for more discounts in the future Jase: I appreciate the advise on the ship. If I fail I would rather have a $70 failure then a $225 failure. I hate to fail by the way It's a great looking model but its just a little too pricey for me as a first time ship. I love your beginners guide and I will be using it as a tool when I tackle this first wooden model. Thanks guys... Best Regards, Ron

Martyn Ingram wrote: If you have any problems Ron you can always give me a shout as I have built the Virginia and I am looking forward to your build Rgd Martyn Thanks Martyn, I have changed my mind though and am going to build the Scottish Maid instead. I will still give you a shout though if I get stuck. This kit is still a smaller build and pretty much the same but, I liked the lines of this ship better. That is pretty important to me for some reason. I pick models that are aesthetically pleasing to my eye. Must be part of my OCD I think. Best Regards, Ron
