Time to have a look at this one. It's been in my stash for a long time, along with the Pocher Mercedes. I chose to have a look at this one as the Merc is harder to get at in my pile! No idea on a final colour scheme yet. I do like the black and yellow but it seems a bit 'done to death' with this kit. I'll do a bit of Googling for ideas. This will be a long project I imagine as it's a monumental kit with godness-knows how many thousands of parts. Also, I already know there are umpteen missing details. I want to add all the engine turn pattern on the relevant parts, add missing wiring/pipework/plumbing and bits, leather trim the interior properly, wood veneer... The list goes on. Anyway, starting imminently. There may be 'interruptions' at times, as I have a scratch build C Type Jaguar on the go too. Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Very nice, look like it will be quite a size when complete. Graham I was drowning my sorrows. But my sorrows they'd learned to swim.

Righty-ho chaps. Off we go. I haven't posted a particularly detailed WIP here before, so now I'm going to bore the pants off everyone. To begin - I got this kit for a ludicrously cheap figure a good few years ago. If you're looking for expensive kits, look at Ebay around January. EVERYONE is skint, and expensive items often go cheap. Such was my Bug. It was sold as 'started' but I asked before buying. A very small amount of the engine was built but everything had been checked. Nothing missing. First order of the day - dismantle the built parts. The crankshaft/pistons were already assembled and glued. OK, not a lot I could do there but they had been put together properly and as they are never seen in the end, it mattered little. The main engine parts were cleaned up, painted and assembled. A very simple first task. However, the detail and hard work is about to begin... Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Looking good, always floors me that they put in details like pistons yet you never see them once built. One day I will build one and do a dio that has it being restored with the engine out. DeAgostini kit builds:

If I ever get my hands on one, I am so going to be taking pictures as I build, and then turning the ones with the internal detail that would otherwise never be seen again into a montage for the back face of the display cabinet. Thanks for the kind words chaps. I decided long ago that for me, there would only be one way to replicate the semi-circular engine turning pattern on various parts of the car. I printed a high resolution sheet of decal on clear film using an equally high res image of real engine turning. As the decal is basically transparent, the aluminium colour behind shows through the pattern on the decal. It doesn't show up very clearly in the pics but the result is quite effective. I also have enough decal to do the firewall in the future, and the cam covers. The Bugatti badge ovals will all need trimming out before the actual badges are fixed in place. Looks great Roy, MFH makes thin aluminum foil with a similar pattern on it.It is used for the instrument panel on the Tipo 158/159

I've got an amazing detail set for this one, produced by a defunct company called "Model Car Specials". I'll dig it out, and post some pics. You might find them very useful. I stand in awe of your Rolls build. Tired, Old, and Cranky!

Many thanks chaps. I haven't heard of the detail set mentioned. I'll be interested to see it. The Bugatti badges were painted red and surface-scraped to reveal the metal and are now in place. On we go... Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Hi Roy, Good to see you at it again, this a superb kit (I have both the Pocher Bugatti's in my "pile") and I know you will make a superb job of it, as I have followed your work on another site. Those engine turning decals are a stroke of genius and look very effective the painted part. I'm really looking forward to seeing this progress. Best Regards Keith.

Many thanks Keith. I've been on this forum for a long time actually but now it's the only one I post on. My last build was the Pocher Ducati. It's here somewhere... Anyway - I've started preparing the supercharger. The pics show the pieces placed together but they aren't at all fixed yet as there's a lot of missing pies and linkages to add. One of the pics show the first of many small holes that have been drilled out to accept the scratch made stuff. As with all 'old' Pocher classics, the parts fit where they touch - or not, as the case may be. LOTS of cleaning up, sanding, smoothing and fettling needed on almost every part. I can already tell this build will take a LONG time... Roy. roymattblack attached the following image(s):
