I have decided to create a diary of my new Bandai BB8 model kit. It is a whopping half scale model and the box size totally represents that. Its a fantastic looking model and I fully intend to create it weathered to sit alongside my R2D2 when its done. Unfortunately it has no electronics and unfortunately I am not really great in that department but I know I am going to enjoy building it nonetheless. It does come with 1 light fitting which is inserted into BB8s main eyepiece.

I have made a start on making the silver a little more authentic and adding starship filth for the inside of his opening panels. Oh yes the beauty of this is that certain panels hinge open rather than having parts to replace like the smaller version although don't get me wrong I know opening panels on the smaller BB8 kit was never going to be an option.

Good start so far. You will find Bandai likes to add a lot of cool but like opening panels and such. Even if they had made this kit smaller they would have still had opening panels.

there is a few parts for this, been watching the build on you tube, you will be having fun with this, good look with it.

So now I have jumped in with both feet I have sprayed the parts silver and started to place parts together. What makes these Bandai kits so amazing is the incredibly high attention to detail and the molds that require no glue fitting together so perfectly. This makes building them extremely therapeutic. When painting and extra detailing is involved I do find myself going through the instructions in a random order. The 2 images below are before detailing

Ok so I don't understand why my images are not showing up. 800x600 pixels at 72 dpi should surely work... Oh well so the 2 images below show detailing for the deep lines where I have used the starship filth to get the desired effect. I am going to proceed with the build in this way adding the line detail to individual components before adding final dirt effects over the entire model when its pretty much built.

I am loving every part of this build so far. Next is detailing one of the components (drawer) that opens on BB8s body. The part that ultimately reveals the other part of the map to Luke Skywalker.

Looking really good there, glad you are enjoying the build. Now you understand why I say everyone should build a Bandai kit at least one time. It's a very therapeutic and stress free build. That and the amazing level of detail in the kits. Even if you don't paint you get a decent looking model. However when you do paint them they come out great. I don't follow the direction on Bandai builds either. Because they are broken down into section you can build as you please. Does the kit come with any bits to make the map module to go in the drawer?

its looking great so far.If you resize your images to 640 by 480 they should appear in the post without having to be downloaded.

Here's hoping the images work this time lol. Just got to 1 of the opening hatch areas of the main body that houses the Tray and I've got to say the mechanism is wonderful. When you pull the hatch cover down the tray is gently pushed a little way out. I'm going to need to sand the inner housing a little as the tray is a little too snug to fit at the moment. lholland attached the following image(s):
