The infamous dreidecker of the "Red Baron" Manfred von Richthofen!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZgGOelZoiw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CfRfKTxgjg

Only available as a full kit!

This new kit includes a revolutionary step-by-step multimedia DVD guide with video tutorials and hundreds of colour photos! (note - the propeller is not motorized but is operable by hand).

The Fokker Dr.1 Dreidecker (triplane) was a World War 1 fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke.
The Dr.1 saw widespread service in the spring of 1918 which became renowned as the aircraft in which Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 19 victories.
Richthofen is considered the ace-of-aces of the war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories. By 1918, he was regarded as a national hero in Germany, and widely respected even by his enemies. The fact that he had his aircraft painted red, led to Richthofen being called "The Red Baron" both inside and outside Germany.
Richthofen was shot down and killed near Amiens on 21 April 1918. There has been considerable discussion and debate regarding aspects of his career, especially surrounding his death.
Though RAF Captain Roy Brown was officially credited with shooting down Richthofen, it is now generally agreed that the bullet that hit Richthofen was fired from the ground.
Captain Brown donated the seat of the DR.1 (in which Richthofen made his final flight) to the Royal Canadian Military Institute in 1920. The seat also holds a side panel signed by the pilots of Brown's squadron. The engine was donated to the Imperial War Museum in London, where it is still on display, the museum also holds the Spandau machine guns. The control column (joystick) of Richthofen's DR.1 can be seen at the Australian War Memorial, in Canberra.

Richthofen remains perhaps the most widely known fighter pilot of all time and his red Fokker Dr.1 one of the most instantly recognised aircraft of all time.

The DR.1 also inspired a number of movies such as "The Blue Max" and "Flyboys"..

Looks to be a nicely engineered kit, could be a lot of fun for those that decide to take it on, with an impressive model to show at the end of the build?! Cool ThumpUp

Given the past collaborations between Artesania Latina and Model Shipways (HMS Vanguard comes to mind), I strongly suspect this is nothing more than a rebox of the existent Model Airways kit.

I believe DarbyVet has built it?

Yes i did build the model airways kit.I actually just had to throw it away.I knocked it off a shelf and it didnt survive the fall. This is similar to the model airways kit, but it has more photoetched parts, the engine details is better and the wing ribs look different to me.It looks like all of the parts that gave me the most trouble have been modified a bit.I may go for this since my Dr1 has gone now.

Actually, it's a brand new kit of this iconic aircraft which has many differences and differing content over and above the Expo version which darbyvet has already mentioned Flapper

Anyone know if there is an option to skin this model?
Steve
No option in the kit as such but no reason why it could not be skinned.

An idea might be to use one of the RC model aircraft skinning products such as Solartex, which is a textured iron-on heat-shrink skin. Normal solarfilm is the smooth glossy version which was supplied with the Hachette DR.1 which in my opinion looked too modern.
You need to be careful not to overshrink the material as it can induce warp to the work being covered and it's recommended to practice on a cheap open frame model such as one of the Guillows balsa kits, but with care and using the correct tool (covering irion), a great result can be achieved.
Satin Solartex is a superlight, extra fine woven fabric film which is factory pre-coloured and is available in many colours including red. A special heat activated adhesive on the back of the fabric gives excellent adhesion to wooden surfaces and to the coloured side of the Solartex, also the adhesive is colourless so the airframe is not contaminated with the fabric colour.

https://balsamart.co.uk/...tbjul3v7cplgl2b9prevc96

To apply to the airframe simply use a covering iron at a temperature of 100~120ºc, for shrinking and stretching increase the temperature to 130~150ºc.
You can use a travel iron as the fabric applicator tool, but using a proper covering iron is far superior benefit as it gets into all the nooks and crannies a lot easier. Its better balanced for modelling use with a "wand" handle behind the hotplate rather than above it. Also, most have a two part angled sole - the front quarter or so being angled up, this helps in getting just the tip into various areas.

You could also consideror the traditional method of covering model aircraft using tissue & dope, but again, be mindful of how you go about this so as to avoid inducing warp.

Hasegawa did a nice limited edition 1/8 Le Rhone 110 replica engine kit that would compliment a DR.1 display..

Hi All,

Last night, for giggles, I sent Model Expo a email asking about the lineage if this kit. Tomick, sir, you are correct.Blushing Blushing It is 100% a new kit, and the gentleman from Model Expo who responded to my email was more than a bit grumpy about it. He did make a point of mentioning that the instructions for the Model Expo kit were written in "excellent English" though. Oh, and that it wasn't made in China. That's hardly enough to sway me towards getting the model Expo kit!
