Hi there everyone.
I am eagerly awaiting my first issues to be delivered having subscribed to the Victory build and thought it would be a good idea to join this site for support and help as i am a wooden model virgin.
My first query i'd like to know is if there is anything i should or shouldn't do right from the off that would help me with my build?

Hi cuemangary, welcome aboard, Be patient and don’t rush, there’s about 2 yrs building ahead of you and it will be a great learning curve and you will enjoy the journey. Before you start the main build my advice would be to wait until you have all the false keel components and ribs in order that you can build the complete keel and rib section in one go. While you are waiting for all the bits and pieces build a jig to hold the keel straight and true, there are some good tips for doing this on the forum. Looking forward to seeing your build diary in the near future. Happy building CMB

Hi cuemangary, welcome aboard mate...I can only echo CMB, and say, take things easy, it may seem daunting, but don't panic, there is a vast supply of good sound advice to be found on this forum, they are a great bunch...Armed with patience and determination you can guarantee that your build will turn out to be something to be proud of...hope you enjoy your build, and keep us posted on your progress... Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

Thanks for the advise.
I have started to sort a jig out as you suggested as I am still eagerly awaiting my first delivery (seems like ages now since I subscribed)
CMB, when you say "2 years of building" is it possible, for my own curiosity, to quantify how many hours work a model like this will take someone to build on average as I appreciate the individual's skill level will shorten or lengthen this time.

Hello again, When I said about 2yrs of building I was referring to the length of time that the magazine/partworks will run for, and assuming that you keep to the build schedule. Personally I am about a third of the way into the build, but some of our more experienced members seem to be right up to date The main point is enjoy the build, no matter how long it takes, it is not a race. Happy building CMB

It depends on your build pace cuemangary, this build is going to take me six months to a year longer, well after this particular series ends...
