The Clipper aircraft they board in Raiders - in the water at the end of the jetty - was actually a completely faked up scene.

The aircraft was actually in a yard. The jetty was built up against it but the surroundings, including the water was added later using film of a vacant jetty and a large matte painting. Even the 'Pan American' on the front side of the 'plane was actually part of the painting. It wasn't on the aircraft at all.

To get the effect of the rippling water reflecting on the 'plane, technicians stood along the lower edge holding large sheets of reflective foil while bright lights were shone on them. The foil was wobbled, creating the moving reflections.
No CGI in those days. Good old practical effects.

Not cheap, but a stunning book. Used copies are a reasonable price. New, BIG money. I got mine when it came out donkeys years ago.
