Looks great. There's a massive VW van following so should be very popular.

Look forward to seeing this released.

Volkswagen T1 Samba

From 1950 to 1956, the T1 was built in Wolfsburg and from 1956, it was built at the new Transporter factory in Hanover.

Like the Beetle, the first T1's had the 1,131cc Volkswagen air-cooled flat-four-cylinder 'boxer' engine mounted in the rear. This was upgraded to 1,192cc 1953. During the 17 years of production there were a great many versions produced of the Transporter by VW and they started producing the Samba in 1951. The Samba, officially called the "Sunroof Deluxe", came with eight small skylight windows giving it the name of the 23-window. From 1964 the wider tailgate meant the rear corner windows were discontinued, making the post 1964 models the 13-window and 21-window.

The Samba has the distinctive split front windscreen and the V shape on the front panel. Around the world it became affectionately known as the Bus, Barndoor, Kombi, Bulli, Microbus, Splitscreen (or Splittie), Samba, 21 Window and 23 Window, to name just a few of its nicknames.
Samba's were painted standard in two colours. Usually, the upper part was coloured white. The two coloured sections were separated by a decorative strip. Further the bus had a so-called "hat": at the front of the van the roof was just a little longer than the car itself to block the sun for the driver. The windows had chrome tables and the van had a more comprehensive dashboard than the normal T1. Instead of a sliding door at the side the Samba had two pivot doors. In addition the Samba had a fabric sunroof. At that time Volkswagen advertised with the idea of using the Samba to make tourist trips through the Alps.

The Samba, in the USA was also known as the 'Sunroof Deluxe' and was the most luxurious version of the T1. Volkswagen vans in the USA were informally classified according to the number of windows they had. This particular model had 23 and later 21 windows including eight panoramic windows in the roof (the 23 window version had additional curved windows in the rear corners). To distinguish it from the normal Volkswagen van the name Samba was coined and in Australia, "Alpine".

When Volkswagen started producing the successor of the T1 (the T2) the company also stopped producing the Samba so there are no Samba's in later versions of the Transporter

German production of the Transporter stopped after the 1967 model year; however, the T1 still was made in Brazil until 1975, when it was modified with a 1968–79 T2-style front end, and big 1972-vintage taillights into the so-called "T1.5" and produced until 1996.
The Brazilian T1's were not identical to the last German models (the T1.5 was locally produced in Brazil using the 1950's and 1960's-era stamping dies to cut down on retooling, alongside the Beetle, where the pre-1965 body style was retained), though they sported some characteristic features of the T1a, such as the cargo doors and five-stud 205mm Pitch Circle diameter rims.

Between 1950 - 67 when production of the Splitscreen model ended, the production line had rolled out 1,477,330 Transporter vehicles.

Like the Beetle, the T1 received numerous nicknames worldwide and, because of its popularity during the Hippie movement of the 1960's, they still remain iconic for many hippie's today and huge popularity to own or hire.

The T2 series ceased production in Brazil on the 31st Dec 2013, due to the introduction of more stringent safety regulations. This marked the end of the era of rear-engine Volkswagen's which originated in 1935 with the Type 1 prototypes.
