Well I know Franciszek Kornicki tops the list purely because a lot of Polish UK residents have voted collaboratively for their countryman to put him there, but what a sham that poll is!?
There are plenty of Spitfire pilots who rank above the Polish guy in my opinion ....
James 'Johnnie' Johnson (the top scoring WWII Allied ace & virtually all in Spitfires)
George Buerling (Malta ace)
Robert Stanford Tuck
Alan Deere
Adolph 'Sailor' Malan (shame about his first name though!)
George 'Grumpy' Unwin
Bob Doe
.... to name just a few (of the few)!
My vote would have to go to Wg Cdr James 'Johnnie' Johnson of course.

No Douglas Bader on your list Kev?
You would think that the winner would be the Spit pilot with most aerial victories or most decorated?
In terms of Spitfire fighter aces, it has to be Johnson with 38 aerial victories which is the highest by far of any Spit pilot, the second being Tuck with 30.
According to Wiki, other than being the youngest squadron commander in the Polish Air Force and being decorated with the Silver Cross of the Virtuti Militari and the Cross of Valour with two bars, Kornicki does not seem to appear on the aerial victory score board., so perhaps the unusual vote is because he's 100 and still alive?

The museum link to choose who and place your vote seems to have a tech problem or that its being bombarded with votes - Oh My! (404) so I guess Kornicki will be announced the winner. http://www.telegraph.co....peoples-spitfire-pilot/
My vote would go to Johnson

Yeah, Bader should be there as well Tom, oops!!
'Ginger' Lacey too amongst many others, though I think maybe Bader and Lacey scored a good few of their kills in the Hurricane during the earlier part of the war but I could be wrong on that, just working off the top of my head!
I tried to vote on that Telegraph poll too but couldn't gain access either - talk about a rigged game!
Interesting to note from that list of WWII Aces that the famous author Roald Dahl made it as an ace with five kills during the war!
