After the picture found earlier this year was debunked as being published a couple of years before the event the island of Saipan bids for a statue of the famous aviator to be placed on the island. I have read several books on the disappearance of Amelia Earhardt and I'm convinced that she didn't survive to be taken hostage by the Japanese and I don't believe it was her and Fred Noonan in that photo. As someone in that article says, it would be better to spend such a large sum of money on reviving the infrastructure of Saipan island.
