PACK 3

POD FLOOR

Pack 3 begins with the floor of pod 3.

All photo reference I have found from the actual TV series shows the pod floor to be grey – and quite dirty, not brown as supplied.
To replicate this, lightly spray the floor with matt grey paint – car primer is excellent for this.

Spray the grey lightly enough that the brown plastic just shows through. This gives a very good mottled effect.

Using the same tyre template that will be used on the doors (see further down) lightly spray matching tyre marks on the pod floor. Only very light passes of paint are needed.

Clean the raised gold/brass pipework with a cotton bud or tissue dampened with white spirit.

POD FRONT AND REAR DOORS PLUS END WALLS/FRAMES

The inner panel of the door should be sprayed matt red/brown. Again, auto red primer is a good choice. Make sure the colour goes into the horizontal grooves.
Lay the panel flat with the hinge end away from you and from a very low angle spray matt black across the panel.

Turn the door around and again, from a low angle spray the door matt grey with a mist of red/brown.
The door panel should now have red/brown in the grooves with a darker black/brown at the bottom edges.

Cut a template in scrap card – old greetings cards are always useful, never bin them – making sure the template matches the tyres of the elevator cars.
Lay the template on the door panel and spray a light coat or red/brown and matt black.
You should have quite effective tyre markings that will match the floor panel.
Paint the rear door in the same way.

The pod structure frames should be painted the same matt grey with a red/brown mist.
Assemble them to the floor.

Similarly, paint the end walls of the pod matt grey with a misting of red/brown. Highlights on the detail pieces can be picked out using coloured marker pens. Assemble the end walls of the pod and fit to the floor.

ELEVATOR CAR 2

This should be assembled and weathered in the same way as was previously described in Pack 1.

FAB 1

There is little to add to this lovely model except for the following:
The radiator shell has a peculiar ‘slope’ to each side which needs to be filed flat.
Once done, the shell and bumpers should be repainted with a good chrome paint, or chrome marker pen.
The vertical grooves in the grille should be washed with a matt black paint and wiped clean.
