BigGrin Hi All

This is where the build diary for the Fokker Dr.1 starts.

Today I spent most of the day making up mini assembly's for the cockpit, this included mould lines and burs on the castings so I now have several small assembly's ready for undercoating.

I then moved on to the fuselage build after a good clean up of the cast parts assembly commenced. The fuselage is split into three sub-assembly's. Cockpit, centre section and tail then there all joined up. The assembly of the above is quite fast using the brass tubes to join everything up and makes a very sturdy assembly. A final tidy up will be done and then the undercoat will go on.

More soon.

BigGrin Thanks for looking in and your comments everyone.

I had a quick look at the Modelexpo Dr.1 kit the fuselage is built in a jig and brass tube used as the main fuselage longerons easy to get it wrong if your not carefull compared to the AL kits way of assembly its far easyer to put together.

Just an observation on how kit design has changed over the years the Modelexpo kit was designed years ago and the AL kit is the latest way to build tubular frame aircraft.Cool

BigGrin Hi All

Bit more done the prepared parts have now been undercoated along with the fuselage [ I noticed I missed a couple of places when editing the pics but all put right now].

Whilst waiting for the paint to dry I carried on constructing the tailplane this is all made from a heavy 1mm thick piece of steel etch. The stabiliser and fin is made from the above etch, two 1mm parts are glued together to make the main frame of the stabilizer and then ribs and the outer frame added,

The fin is made up from three 1mm parts and a cast pivot arm.

The elevator is made up from standard etch with a 2mm bamboo dowel used as the spine. As with the fuselage all went together with ease.

Lots of painting still to do will update soon.

BigGrin Hi All

The paint and the Miniart Baron Richthofen kit has arrived today.

The paint i am using is Tamiya XF- 7 Flat Red and is a match for the RAL number given in the instructions.

The mini art kit comes in grey plastic with some nice details and you even get his dog, also included in the kit is a stand/plinth if you wish to use it.

More soon.
