The first 2 pics are of the finished keel The next 5 pics show how I strengthen the ribs, using balsa wood, it also gives a firm base for planking the hull. My preffered adhesive is Aliphatic The next pics show all the fillers in place. Ok, on to the next part of my build. I decided to deviate from the build instructions at this point, at no time did I plank the decks in parts (as per the instuctions) I joined all the deck parts together and planked them as a complete deck. Starting with the lower deck,the Forecastle, The waist and finally the stern deck. The wood supplied for planking is Ayous. I did not use contact adhesive, prefering Aliphatic to plank the decks. We are up to part 15 at this point. Its time to make the frame of the scuttle cover (lid) of the forecastle deck. I followed the instructions, the only change I made was to the stain. At part 17 we fit the ladder to the scuttle,a part is supplied to rest the ladder on (20mmx20mm wooden block) I decided to not use this as I had a vision of the crew going down the ladder and falling off the block. I built an extra piece of deck, planked and fitted it. you can now see deck at the bottem of the ladder.It does not change the build, but I feel better. This is now part 18, fitting the two bow exterior bulwarks. I cut out the piecesand soaked them in hot water for 30 mins. Then fitted them to the bow (wet) and left over night to dry, the next day I glued and fitted them properly. Now up to date with part 19. this involves fitting the bow interior frameworks.I prepared the pieces as per the instructions, the only change I made was to fit both sides in one go,instead of left side (port) now and the right side (starboard)when ever the next part arrives.
