Take the hull and with a round and flat file remove the heads off all the nails that you used to fix the planks in place. Then smooth off the strake edges at frame one so both are level with each other.

Next take the bow frames fret and number the frames 1 to 8 as indicated. Then remove the frames from the fret and sand all the edges smooth.

Apply glue to frame one and glue it in position at the bow continue adding the frames until all eight have been added and allow to dry.

Stage 40

Stage 40 contents:- Stern frames.

Take the set of bow frames from stage 38 and number then 1 to 8 as you did with the frames in stage 39, remove them from the fret, sand and add them to the bow section the same way that you added the previous frames. Allow the glue to dry.

When the glue has set start shaping the bow to the correct profile, I found that my Perma-grit tools made short work of the task here but do use your preferred method to get the correct profile. When you can lay a strake flat against all sections at the bow you about right but also be careful not to alter the shape of the false keel at the bow.

Stage 41

Stage 41 contents:- Gratings, walnut and ramin strips and ladder sides.

Make another ladder with 6mm rungs the way you made up the previous ladders, stain it and add it to the hole in the grating frame. You should now have one ladder left to fit in the grating.

Next take the 2 x 4mm ramin strip and cut it to a length of 170mm. Retrieve the grating from stage 35 and cut two 4 x 7 sections from it and smooth the sides. Glue the short ends of the gratings to either side of the 170mm strip so they are at right angles to each other. Cut two 26mm lengths off another 4 x 7mm strip and glue them to the gratings and central ramin strip.

Stage 42

Stage 42 contents:- Stern frames.

Draw a line from the top of the stern side wall to the upper stern reinforcements and then remove any excess so you get a straight line at the stern, also blend the sides of the stern reinforcements to match the sides of the hull.

Next take a left over 2 x 5mm strake from the hull planking stage and add two strakes one above the other to the gap above the top stern reinforcement. Now sand this to profile the end of the stern reinforcements so you get a gentle angle towards the false keel.

Number the parts on both stern frame frets 1 to 6 as shown.

You may find that if you follow the instructions and sand the stern reinforcements to the angle shown you may not be able to glue all 6 stern frames in place. (Frame 6 will be discarded and almost all of  the material of frame 5 be removed in the sanding stage). Doing it this way may make the stern too high at stern frame 4.

I opted to sand the stern frames to an angle that gives a gentle slope then glue all the stern frames 1 to 6 in place. This will leave a gap between frame 6 and the stern reinforcements, I then used left over planking to fill the gap and then shaped the stern to profile.

Stage 43

Stage 43 contents:- Grating, ramin strips and ladder sides.

Make up another ladder as you have before with 6mm steps then stain and matt varnish it .Fit the ladder to the grating on the deck.

Make up a grating from the strips provided and then cut four 4 x 7 pieces from it and smooth the sides of all the gratings. You will also need four 2 x 4mm ramin strips all at 26mm long. Take the grating assembly from stage 41 and glue 2 gratings against the ramin strips . Then like making a sandwich add 2 ramin strips then 2 more grating and finally the last 2 ramin strips.

You should now have six gratings glued along the central 170mm ramin strip with ramin spacers between each grating.

Stage 44

Stage 44 contents:- Ramin strips, cannon parts and blocks.

Shape the stern area using your preferred sanding tools then give the whole hull a sanding to get a good flat surface for the second planking. If you find any large gaps fill them with scrap planking and again sand back, smaller gaps can be filled by squirting some glue into the gap then as you sand the area the sawdust will mix with the glue and seal the gap. You should be aiming for a smooth finish for the second planking to stick too.

Stage 45

Stage 45 contents:- Ramin strips, cannon parts and a chain.

Tip:- The inner walls will be painted green at a later stage the green I have found that matches the constitution green is Tamiya's XF-70 Dark Green. To prevent getting paint onto the decks when you get to the painting stage what I did was to seal and paint the first strips that lay against the deck. The upper strips are then easily painted when the time comes.

Take a 1 x 5 x 300mm strip and then glue it to the inside port wall against the deck planking fit two more strips along the inner wall. Cut any excess at the stern. Add another three planks above the first row and lastly three more above this row. When dry cut out the strip covering the gun ports and the rectangular holes midships and then sand them flat.

Stage 46

Stage 46 contents:- Gratings, ramin and walnut strips.

As you did in stage 45 glue three rows of 1 x 5 x 300 ramin strips to the inner walls but in this stage on the starboard side. Again cut the excess wood from the gun ports as you did before and sand the edges. Now sand the tops of the ramin strips so the match the tops of the walls.

Make up gratings from the parts provided in this stage and from stage 41 then cut eight 4 x 7 gratings from them. Again add them to the assembly from stage 43 sandwiching ramin strips between the gratings until you have a row of seven gratings and ramin strips.

Stage 47

Stage 47 contents:- ladder parts, cannon parts, sapele and ramin strip.

Take the hull and spread your chosen filler on the hull to fill any irregularities then when dry sand the hull smooth. Make sure the gap at the front and rear of the false keel stays at 4mm width so be careful when sanding in these area's.

Next start laying your first sapele strip by placing it half way over the wall strip and the planking strip so the joint is central. The first strip should be placed at the bow and reach the rear of the fourth gun port when dry trim the strip at the bow to match the edge of the false keel. Add two more sapele strips keeping the joint central as you did with the first strip added and then trim any excess at the stern when dry.

Do the same to the other side of the hull.

Stage 48

Stage 48 contents:- Sapele and grating strips.

Take a sapele strip and place it at the bow above the first strip laid, this strip should be placed to reach the rear of the second gunport. Trim the excess from the bow when dry as you did before then use three more strips to continue the run aft. When the strips are dry start cutting the excess covering the gun ports and any overhanging the stern area. Do this carefully to keep a straight edge.

Add two more rows of sapele strips above the ones just laid and then trim the excess from the gun ports. Finally add another two rows of sapele above the last planks laid making six rows in all that should reach just below the upper gun ports. Make sure to remove any excess strip from the bow and stern area's when the glue is dry.

Repeat the above on the other side of the hull.

Stage 49 contents:-Ladder parts, pins. Sapele, ramin and walnut strips.

Assemble another grating and then cut two 3 x 7 gratings and smooth the edges.

Next glue the two gratings to the assembly from stage 46 but this time the long sides will be glued to the central strip. Cut the central strip to match the two gratings just added and then sand all the sides flat.

Make a frame from 2 x 3 walnut to surround the grating then add a 2 x 2 ramin frame around this just as you did with all the other gratings you have made. Next frame the two inner openings with walnut strip. Sand the frames and gratings to shape then stain and give the assembly a coat of matt varnish.

Cut away the two beams in the large opening midships then glue the large grating over this gap making sure the two opening's face the bow.
