Hi,
I have just received Pack 3 for the HMS Victory build which included the free tool set. Included is a pin push for use with all the planking which makes up pack 3. Each set of planks has a small bag of brass pins and the pinheads of only about 1 in 10 actually fits inside the pin push! Have I just been unlucky or has anyone else experienced this problem? I suspect the problem is in the manufacturing of the pins. Has anyone sourced alternative pins that actually fit and if so, from where. I have has a look on-line and it appears there are a number of sizes - not sure which I will need. I did ring customer support but I don't think the problem was fully understood!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Mark

Sounds like you were unlucky. Only one or two of mine were misshapen and I don't remember hearing of any problems from others when this build was popular at the beginning.

Requesting a replacement seems to be the best bet at this stage.

I had an accident with my sovereign of the seas so re-subbed .

I had my free tool kit last month and noticed this time there is a great improvent in the quality of the tools supplied. The pin pusher is lovely. A wooden handle with a smaller pin tube and very precise.

I can only imagine that maybe your victory set is similar? - did it come in a zipped wallet with the modelspace name embroidered onto the front?

You can find with the nails - even some you buy that the heads are mis formed. I would suggest get your eye protection on and just snip the heads off as you will have some cutters in your victory tool kit.

You can order the nails from model shops but unless you bulk out your order you may find the postage takes up a big part of your cost.
Happy Modelling

Hi Mark, there are other ways of fixing the pins in position without the use of a pin pusher such as holding the pin in position with a pair of long nosed pliers/grips and a small hammer, this is what I do for pins that won't fit into the pin pusher. Pre-drilling pin holes would also hold the pin in place allowing you to tap it home, plus this method prevents wood strips from splitting especially at the ends.

The pin pusher supplied is good and does the job but perhaps you would like to consider investing in a different pin pusher, one that has a depth stop included. Think I would prefer this option to spending money on different pins. This would be a good one to consider...Cool Cool
