BigGrin Hi All

Had this in the stash for a while now so it about time it was put together, it will be an OTB build with no extra's. There is a review of the kit here:-

http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=21127

There is a good deal of preparation needed on the body work it needs to be fully painted, decaled and clear coated before assembly can commence. So as the paint is drying I started on the engine and gearbox.

The main engine is made up of 10 parts and pre-assembly's the gear box has 4 main parts all went together with no problems and then a mix of flat aluminium and gun metal was sprayed over the entire engine assembly.

The engine and gearbox has a bronze finish so a mix was made up with the alcohol based metal paints I have and painted on to the engine. There is still a dark wash to follow and then all the spaghetti to add.

More soon.

Some nice History about the RA273 here: http://www.grandprixhistory.org/honda_ra273.htm

Interesting that between 1986-91 a Honda was the engine to have and powered teams to six consecutive constructor titles; two with Williams 1986-87 and four with McLaren 1988-91 along with five consecutive driver championships; one by Nelson Piquet in 1987, three by Ayrton Senna in 1988, 1990 and 1991, and one by Alain Prost in 1989. By the end of the 1992 season Honda-powered cars had won 71 Grands Prix.

BigGrin Hi All

After putting a wash on the engine it still wasnt dark enough so a coat of Bronze went on which transformed the engine to its correct colour [ should have just gone with the bronze to start with LOL ]. Started adding the various components to the engine along with the spark plug leads and ali funnels. I still have the fuel lines to add and the various nuts were highlighted with a Molatow liquid chrome pen along with all the other parts that are chromed after stripping Tamiya's chrome off.

The main body assembly was started next, the inner cockpit sides added along with various components. The nose cone was next that has a stone guard incorporated into it and the water tank and radiator was painted and assembled.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi All

More done, the engine is finished now that the fuel lines have been added.

Next the bodywork decals were added to the main body nose cone and peddle reservoirs cover the rear central meatball decal was a real pain to get to go around all the curves even using decal softener.

Once the decals had dried three coats of diamond coat clear-coat went on and the parts left to dry.

Once the clear-coat had dried the front reservoir box was made up along with the front bulkhead, shocks ect. The reservoir box was glued in place first then the upper wishbones were added to the shocks and lined up with there holes as the bulkhead was glued in place. lastly today the lower wishbones were fitted to bothe lower attachment points.

I have noticed in the pictures that the front upper wishbones need to be retouched this will be done tomorrow and the nose cone and cover are only placed on the model and not fitted properly as yet.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi All

More progress, all the suspension and wheels are now fitted to the model along with the steering wheel and dash. The engine is also fixed in place.

The front cowl has been fixed using the screws provided along with the central air duct cover.

Still have the exhaust to put together/windscreen/rear view mirrors and the driver figure to fit.

More soon.
