Masamune was one-eyed, having plucked his own eye out after an illness according to legend. He built the modern city of Sendai, modernized his domain, built the first modern Japanese sailing ship, and sent emissaries to Mexico, Cuba and Spain. He also sent samurai swords to the Pope and finally, George Lucas was inspired by Masamune's 'kabuto' helmet and created the helmet of Darth Vader
