hi guys. ive always had nitro R/C car models but as soon as i saw this kit i just had to have it!! i was going to just build the kit "out of the box" but saw some guys had gone with the carbon fibre water slide decals and again...........i just had to have it!!  as i say its my first time using these and i found them a bit tricky but managed a pretty good result i think. (hopefully get pics up soon!). before i do ive noticed people mentioning the tamiya clear smoke. is this just for use with an airbrush or is it available in tins? im using the scale motorsport 1/12th decals and would like to tame the look down a bit if possible. any tips would be grateful for water slide decals!  thanks scott If at first you don't succeed........skydiving is not for you!

Hi Scott and welcome to the forum.. The tamiya clear smoke is available in either a bottle (all Tamiya paints come this way) or in a small spay can.. If you have used spray cans before which I am sure you have with your RC cars then thats the best way.. just use plenty of ventilation and lights coats.. either that or brush on but i find the paint drags.. Don't get too carried away with your 1/12 scale decals, because this model is 1/8 scale

Big T is right, I think you can easily over do certain parts of a model with the wrong materials. Carbon fiber really is subtle until you get up close so the decals that are a bit loud just don't look realistic. As big T said 1:12 to 1:8 don't really go.

this is what ive managed so far. hopefully the clear smoke on top will soften the decals! hoping to do each side of the upper suspension parts in 1 piece but its going to be pretty tricky! If at first you don't succeed........skydiving is not for you!

Hi Scott, excellent result with the carbon fibre decal!! Hard to believe that this is your first attempt at using it?? I agree with you that you need to tone it down a bit, but once you have applied the 'Clear Smoke' I think it will look absolutely stunning, so please post up a pic or two after you've done that for all to see as I think a lot of us would be interested to have a look at the result!! Also, I wouldn't worry too much about doing the upper suspension arms in one piece, because if you look closely at the real thing on an F1 car, it is usually made from several pieces of carbon fibre cloth that lay up in different directions depending on where the strength is needed, so maybe it would look more realistic by NOT being done in one piece methinks?? Just a thought?? P.S. - Remember Mr. T's sound advice about not overdoing the amount of carbon fibre decal applied, as it is in the wrong scale after all is said and done, so I think a bit of subtle use here and there in key areas would look much better than having it everwhere?? Just a thought again and you know Mr.T is usually right, but well done on what you have so far, it looks nice!!  _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Regards ... I just look at your pictures and I'm stunned at the level of detail you guys are going with this build, looks bloody good so hats off to you, this is a stupid question but what is the basic process to make the parts carbon look? is it a transfer laid over the part with holes in so you can spray paint it? if so I assume you then remove the transfer and clear coat it afterwards?? PS where are Warthog's carbon pictures?

Hi mate. The decals are just like the decals used to put the the missing parts of the sponsor logo on the front wing. It's a very thin film that is stuck to the surface. The decal I used here wasn't the best but other decals like the ones warthog used look much better and don't need "tinting" to tone the effect down. Warthogs pics are under his build diary "3x mp4-23". Not only has he bought all the decals in the bloody country he even buying three models!! If at first you don't succeed........skydiving is not for you!
