BigGrin Hi All

This will be mt 2018 build of the year entry the 1/8 Amati Arno Hydroplane Racer kit and with it a 1/8 L&P metal kit of the engine that powered this beast.

The Amati Arno kit has been in the stash for a while now and time it was built. the kit is the special edition one that comes with a ready planked hull, lots of preformed chrome parts, etch and a rather nifty leather armchair for the driver.

The L&P engine kit is long out of production now but consists of metal castings and various other parts to complete a rather fine engine. Some details below:-

125 metal parts

8 CNC-turned velocity stacks.

4 photoetched plates

450 screws and nuts

cables, rubber tubes and shrink tubes for representing hoses

Cd-Rom with many photos and step-by-step instructions for construction of the model

printed instructions

Both will be built as separate display items because a lot of engine detail is lost if its mounted in the boat.

This will be great.

Like a fool, I passed up on this huge kit early last year for £100 delivered.
Even worse, I already have the engine!

Maybe I'll get another chance one day.

I'll be watching yours with envy.

BigGrin Hi all

Started on the Arno firstly the internal central strengtheners were added to the hull then the body openings were addressed so that all the casting remains around the edges of the openings was removed from the fibreglass moulding.

Next the three air vents were marked out on the front of the body and attached. The fuel tank was made up by attaching the plastic outer to the wooden internal stiffener.

Finally after a final tidy up the body and the fuel tank were given a coat of undercoat.

More soon

BigGrin Hi All

I have now painted the fuel tank aluminium. The grey undercoat on the body was lightly rubbed down and then a white undercoat/filler was used to give several light coats to build up and even coat. The body will now be left for a couple of days so the paint can cure.

Lots of rubbing down and prepping to do next before the Zero paints Rosso Red goes on.

More soon.

You forget just how mechanical these things were by comparison of today’s electronics, very brave men of the time. Nice start on the internals Cool
