This is my entry for the competition, the Supermarine Walrus Mk.1

The model is a new Moulding, so hopefully will go together in a straightforward manner. I have the base model kit as below, just waiting on a bit of internal and external PE (Eduard). As this was a bit of an impulse purchase I am currently researching an appropriate colour scheme and potential diorama.

A bit of history of the Walrus:

The Supermarine Walrus was a catapult-launched, biplane amphibian with pusher propeller, developed from the Seagull. The Prototype desigjnated the Seagull V had one 635hp Pegasus IIM2 engine, it was initially built as a private venture, this then became a production model for RAAF. The first production models in 1935 were the Walrus Mk I, redesignated from the Seagull V for service with the RAF and FAA; some fitted with ASV radar. For the Spitfire fans, it may be hard to believe that the stubby Walrus was a creation of the same mind, and was produced during roughly the same period of time.

It was the standard catapult- launched reconnaissance aircraft for some time. In 1941, when RAF began to form specialist air-sea rescue squadrons, the walrus became a mainstay of these. in total, seven squadrons in Britain and four in the Middle East flew the type. It is in this service that the Walrus gained the reputation for reliability and it's ability to withstand considerable damage.740 were built between 1936 and 1944.

A very nice choice of subject DB and having read the build reviews of this kit in the modelling mags, this should turn out to be a cracking model and a fun build.

Good luck in the competition. Cool ThumpUp

Sprues ready for a quick scrub prior to starting work on it (while it may not be necessary, it's a habit I have got into and it doesn't do any harm other than delaying the build until dry). As can be seen there are one or 2 sprues to play with here. The package comes with 3 posters detailing the colour schemes of the different options for the Walrus.

Looking forward to this one DB as it's a kit that I've been mulling over whether to get or not since it's release last year. Will be interested to see how your build goes, especially with the extra PE parts. Cool

Good luck with it. ThumpUp

Nice update.

Its a great looking aircraft and i am sure you will turn out a top result.

Looking at this years new releases it seems airfix have another version of this kit expected towards the end of the year.

Happy Modelling

Had a productive day today, primed everything in white, and built the etch bomb bays. Wil post more pictures tomorrow as I have been building the walrus in modules ( engine, upper and lower wing assemblies, etc)
