Welcome to the Kit review of OzMods 1:600 scale HMAS Duchess.

This subject is close to my hart which will be explained in the build diary.

OzMods are an Australian company that specialise in resin kits. I have built a number of resin kits over the years from a number of companies, but this is my first from OzMod and will be interesting to see how it stacks up...

The box it comes in is sturdy a rental shake and no sounds of movement, thats always a good sign. Box art is nice too. Opening the box its is well packed bubble wrap and foam chips ensure the box is full and the contents well protected.

The first part out is the one piece waterline hull. I have to say I am very impressed with the level of detail and the finest of the moulds. I could not see any mould distortion or air bubbles. very nice indeed. some scuttle definition is a little lost on one side but nothing that cannot be picked out with a drill, the kit is not intended for the novice, so no issue at all.

the next part is the main bridge superstructure, scale in an individual bad, again no damage and some nice detail. couple of pin bubbles present, easily filled with a blob of CA.

The parts supplied on resin toys have been taped down to card, this level of attention to detail is impressive, I have not seen this before, as a result this is the first resin kit I have purchased with NO damaged parts - This company defiantly know what they are doing. The fine detail is excellently cast and all parts are clearly numbered.

There is a nicely cast mast that is very fine, but also an etch replacement option for some extra fitness.

A rarity among resin kits is the inclusion of a decal sheet with hull markings and flags

Included is an A4 instruction sheet that is surprisingly detailed, there is some history on one side and a 3 step construction diagram on the other, along with a parts list some build notes and advice. Interestingly they are on Blue paper, as a dyslexic, these are the most conferable instructions for me to read, bonus.

there is a separate paint instruction sheet which offers alternative manufacturers paint numbers so the modeller docent have the leg work, this is a welcome addition and again the attention to detail in this kit is great.

the final sheet in the box has the instructions for the etch mast, which is nicely detailed with a product list on the other.

Finally there was, what I can only describe as a boomerang in the kit, could not find a reference to it in the instructions so may just put that on my car keys.Laugh BigGrin Cool

Summery

I am mightily impressed with this kit. The packaging is best in class, the instructions are better than many other resin kit producers and OzMods have thought about what the modeller wants, detail, delivered safely with clear instructions to make an accurate model al from one box.

It would have been nice to have some etch railings, but not a big issue easy to pick up on line. I have to say I totally love this kit and without doubt would recommend the kit and OzMods. not only is the kit great, the price is very reasonable for resin the service was good emails answered promptly and delivered in under 2 weeks which included the Xmas break.
