The final set of pictures show the rear engine piece in place, although not glued yet, and the front nose section temporarily in place. I then hooked up the power supply to see if I had the right lighting effect, and I have to say, I was very pleased with the result.
I have also decided I will have some sound effects in the model to give it a little more realism, well that’s the plan. So, until next time, I will leave you with a video of the tested engine with sound effects.

Just a quick update. I have been looking at how I can have sound effects in the final model, and not having done anything like this before, I have spent some time on the internet and YouTube looking for some inspiration. I then ordered an Adafruit sound FX board along with a 2.5W Amp board and 8ohm speaker. I think I’ve got the gist of what to do. Markwarren attached the following image(s):

I have also taken quite a few snap shot pictures of the pod racer scene from the film. I noticed in one of the scenes, when Sebulba was tampering with Anakin’s racer, there is a panel on the side of the engine, shown in the picture below. The second photo shows the model with no panel. Using some very thin, almost paper thin, styrene, I made two panels, one for each engine. I also used a rivet maker. The final picture shows the panel I made, glued in place on the part with the rivets.
Next, I will start to paint and weather the engines.

Very envious of the electronics you have managed to get in here and the effects you have achieved I have always had to use pre existing kits.
Maybe that will have to be the new skill learnt for the next project.

It looks awesome Thank you everyone for your support. The electronics is something I’ve picked up along the way. You do need to think about how you are going to do things, and how it will all fit, but with a little patience it’s amazing what you can achieve. It is a lot easier than you think, and many tutorials on the net. Many thanks Mark

I have put some more base coats on the engine, ready for fine detailing. First, I painted the blue panels as shown and the small yellow rim. Then, I used some Mig oils and rust pigments and liberally washed it over the base paint. I allowed this to dry for 10 minutes before lightly wiping the excess areas down with cotton wool and cotton buds for difficult areas. This will be left to dry for 24 hours before air brushing these pieces with a light coat of Matt varnish. This will seal in the washes and give a good hard base coat for further painting.Markwarren attached the following image(s):

I mixed some paints to get a red colour I was pleased with and sprayed the underside panel. I allowed these to dry for an hour until they were touch dry, before using a cotton bud, to rub along the edges and panel parts to expose the metalcote paint beneath. This gives it the natural weathered look as oppose to painting on the worn parts. These will be allowed to harden for several days.
The last pictures show the engine temporarily pieced together with the main parts now varnished and some steel pigment applied. I have also started to paint the back-engine cowl.
I still have the front nose section to wire up inside, and once done it will then be attached to the main engine, ready for the end panels to be painted yellow. After this, I will then start to detail paint and connect some wiring to the main engine section, before attaching more pipe work and engine flaps.
