Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Front base panel, Rear base panel, Rollers x2, Roller ends x4, Axles x2 and Screws (2.6 x 5mm) x15.

Join the front and rear base panels via the four lugs indicated, making sure that the two parts lay flat to each other, note the fixing positions (circled). Then fix with four 2.6 x 5mm screws making sure all four screws are secure.

Take a roller and two end caps. Fit an end cap into each end of the roller making sure there are no gaps between the roller and the end caps. Now take the completed roller and an axle, fit an axle through the hole in the end of one of the rollers and feed it through the other end. Arrange so there is an equal length of axle emerging from both ends. Repeat so both rollers are prepared, noting where the two points of the front axle will be fitted. Making sure the axle remains inside the roller, fit the axle’s tips into the brackets either side of the hole in the base’s front panel and make sure the roller is seated correctly. Repeat for the other roller, seating it at the rear of the pod base.

Carefully lower the pod assembly onto the base, as indicated by the four arrows. (Make sure the rollers stay in position). Make sure you line up the two holes arrowed and check again that the rollers are still in position and can rotate freely. Now fix 10 screws in place and then tighten in the order shown. Roll the pod back and forth a little to check again that the rollers work freely.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 20

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Plug, Detail 1, Detail 2(x2), Detail 3 and Detail 4.

Fit the plug to cover the screw hole indicated. Then glue detail 1 via it`s pins.

Now fit a detail 2 and then the other next to it, then fit detail 3. Detail 4 fits with its tab holding it in position via the keyhole slot.

Firefly

Parts supplied:
Chassis, Axles x4, Wheels A x8(on fret), Wheels B x8(on fret) and Tracks x2.

Remove drive wheels A and B from their sprues, remove any burrs then glue the parts A and B together via the tabs/slots. Press the parts together to secure them. Repeat for the wheels A and B, as before press the parts together until the glue dries. You should then have six wheel sets.

Fit one of the drive wheel sets onto the tip of one axle, now fit the three other axles into three wheel sets. Then fit the drive wheel axle through the rearmost hole in the chassis and fit the other drive wheel set onto the opposite axle tip. Press the parts together so they are flush with the chassis but still rotate freely. Repeat for a wheel and axle set and use a free wheel set on the other tip again. You need to repeat this so all the wheels are fitted.

Pull one of the rubber tracks over the wheels, starting from the drive wheel and make sure the track is seated neatly over the wheels. Repeat for the other tracks, then roll the model back and forth a little to check both are fitted correctly.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 21

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Lab part 1,Lab part 2,Lab part 3,Lab exterior,Cylinder and Plugs x6.

Fit lab parts 1 and 2 together, the pins are at the front of the completed part. Glue the cylinder to the lab wall as indicated by the arrow then fit lab part 3 onto the top of the lab via its four locating pins. fit the lab parts 1 and 2 that you assembled earlier onto the top of the lab.

There are six holes in the pod floor that need plugs fitting.

Glue the lab assembly in position via its pins, making sure there are no gaps between the lab and the floor. The cut-out in the rear of the lab will sit against the section of frame behind it.

Stage 21

Firefly

Parts supplied:
Main body,Rear fender,Under cover,Front fender,Water tank,Lamp covers(L+R),Chemical tanks x2,Ariel base 1,Frame 1,Frame 2,Searchlights(L+R),Body details 1-5(on fret) and Radiator fins-Ariel bases 2 x2-Nozzle(on fret).

Glue the aerial base 1 to the rear of the underside of the main body. Remove the radiator fins from their sprues, trim any burrs and glue them next to the aerial base. Now fit rear fender, this will seal the parts in place. Glue the under cover to the other end of the Firefly body, then glue the front fender to the under cover. Next glue the left and right lamp covers in place noting their orientation. Two searchlights go on top of the Firefly body. Be careful as the parts are thin and delicate.

Body detail 2 fits in its slot behind the right searchlight and detail 1 goes behind the left searchlight. Both the number two aerial bases go in the circular locations behind the details just fitted. Detail 3 goes on next, take care to orientate the part correctly. Detail 4 goes on the other side, again orientate the part correctly.

The chemical tanks are the next detail parts to add. Glue these parts in place via their pins. Body detail 5 now fits into the slot between the chemical tanks. Frame 1 then fits over detail 5 fixing it by the two locating pins. Fit the nozzle into the water tank using a little glue on the tab, making sure you fix the nozzle so that it points upwards from the water tank. Fit the water tank assembly to the main body via its lugs then fit frame 2 to cover the water tank.

Stage 22

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Detail 5,Detail 6,Detail 7,Detail 8,Detail 9 x2 and a Plug

Detail 5 fits into the four holes alongside the floor pipes, it doesn't matter which way round it goes. Start by slotting the forward tip under the front wall section, then fit the detail’s four pins.

Glue detail 7 into the holes across from detail 5. The picture shows its proper orientation. Similarly, glue detail 8 against the edge by the floor pipes. Take the two detail 9 parts and fit the first one next to detail 7. Press the detail 9 into place by its base rather than the top of the part, then glue the second detail 9 next to detail 8. Fit detail 6 into the floor in the front right corner covering the screw hole, fit the plug over this screw making sure the pipe detail lines up.

Stage 22

Firefly

Parts supplied:
Cockpit,Windscreen,Horn,Ariels x3,Actuators x2,Actuator arms(L+R) and a Shield.

Glue the windscreen to the cockpit and hold in place till the glue sets. Fit the horn to the top of the Firefly cab making sure that it faces forwards. The cockpit assembly now slots onto the front of the main body. Now lower the body/cockpit assembly onto the chassis base fixing it by the two lugs.

Fit the right actuator arm to one of the actuators, both actuators are the same but make sure you orientate the parts correctly. Repeat for the left actuator arm and actuator. Glue the right actuator arm pairing to the pins on the right side of the shield’s reverse. Lay the shield face down and check the arm is perpendicular to the shield and leave the glue to dry. Repeat the previous steps for the left arm.

Once the glue has dried fully, fit the shield to the main body (DO NOT GLUE) via the holes in the sides. Be careful when widening the arms. Move the shield up and down a few times to check its movement is unobstructed.

You now have three aerials to fit to the upper body of the Firefly.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 23

Parts supplied:
Walkway R1, Walkway R2, Walkway L1, Walkway L2, Walkway C1, Walkway C2 and Stays 1(L+R)-Stays 3(L+R)-Stays 5(L+R) all on a fret.

Look for the R marks on the walkways R1 and R2, then join these via the pins/holes, carefully using a little glue to bond them together. Hold the parts together until the glue is set to secure them. As in the previous step construct the left walkway using parts L1 and L2 then join walkways C1 and C2 in the same way. This walkway crosses the pod interior, joining the right and left walkways. There are small pins at the ends of walkway C, note the difference between the position of the pins. Glue walkway C to the right walkway, being very careful to orientate the parts correctly. Then glue walkway C to the left walkway, making sure the handrails are all joining each other neatly as one continuous rail.

Remove stay L1 from the sprue and remove any burrs. Stay L1 (which has a 1 marked on it) fits to the foremost frame via its two pins. Now as with L1 fit stay R1 to the opposite section of the same frame. Stays L3 and R3 have a 3 marked on them: fit these to the third frame. Stays L5 and R5 have a 5 marked on them: fit these to the fifth frame. Check the position and fit of all stays. Pinch each stay to ensure it is securely fitted and wait for the glue to cure.

Once the glue is dry, open the pod’s hatches and feed the walkways through the front opening. Secure the walkways by gluing the recesses in their footpath sections to the tips of all six stays.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 24

Parts supplied:
Right inner wall, Detail 1, Detail 2 x2, Detail 3, Detail 4, Details 5-6(on fret), Lights x6(on fret) and an Identification plate.

Glue detail 1 into its position on the inner wall then glue the first detail 2 next to it. It doesn't matter which way up it goes, glue the other detail 2 on the other side then glue detail 3 underneath. Familiarise yourself with detail 4, which slopes up and outward to match the contour of the inner wall. Glue the part into position, it will match the inner wall’s outward curve. Details 5 and 6 have an R stamped on their reverses, glue them into position making sure they are orientated correctly.

Remove the six lights carefully from the fret and glue three toward the front and three toward the rear of the inner wall.

Lower the identification plate through the second and third frames, facing inwards. The two pins on the frames will locate the plate. Use a little glue to affix the plate which should be angled slightly downwards.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.
