How about something that could be sold with an optional accessory kit?

Deagostini have already done this with the Spitfire, so how about something from another area.

The one that comes easiest to mind for me would be the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D from "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Base kit, 100 weeks to build the iconic spacecraft, with an option to extend, only open if you have already completed the 100 issue run, to get the parts for the 'Future' enterprise from the final episode "All Good Things".

Or a partwork set. "Du(a)(e)ls". An iconic car, bike, warship, or whatever, and its main rival [Duels], or close ally [Duals].

A ship under Drake's command, and an equal class ship from the Spanish Armada, for example. Or both Spitfire and Hurricane.

Obviously each model in this sort of set would be smaller than the sailing vessels and cars, etc. currently produced, and there would be a risk of subscribers only picking up the issues to build the single model they want, but there could be an equal number waiting for the next model in the set to join in.

What about releasing two sets a year? Launch one set, then as that set reaches the mid-way point where it is going to change from one model to the second, start a second set. Ideally from a different subject, so, half way through the Drake/Spanish Armada set start up on Tiger 1 and T34 WWII tanks, or Spitfire and Hurricane. The list of combinations must be very long - Spitfire and Hurricane, or Spitfire and ME109? Mk1 Ford Escort and Mk 1 Ford Focus rally cars,

Now that suggestion of a discount off your next subscription is a GREAT idea.

Clearly it can't be silly, like 50% off, but something fairly substantial would really tempt people to sign up for something else.

DeAg often discount kits at certain times of the year by anything up to 30% and sometimes beyond.

Even a 20% or 25% discount would be extremely popular and as you say, only open to those who have subbed to a full run and completed it.

Maybe even, only for those who have completed TWO full subs...?

An offer of a few free issues wouldn't be enough for most people to be tempted to splurge another £800-£1000+ subscription.

Spitfire and Hurricane wouldn't appeal to the same modeller? They are both British fighter planes from WWII. It seems to me to be the ideal set for someone who has neither without getting into rivet-counter territory of Spitfire Mk 4 and Spitfire Mk 5c sort of territory. Both Spitfire and Hurricane were equally essential in the defense of Britain during the war.

Another pairing could be from Formula 1, the top cars from two different manufacturers in the same year. Or a modern F1 car, and the car from the , 70's say, that it can draw its roots from.

You can either give the people a view of the same races from different perspectives, or a timeline of innovation and rules changes over the period.

Obviously I can't speak for other people, nor the companies that might set up this sort of thing. If they don't think it would be profitable, they're not going to do it after all. I just think it would be interesting, especially with the changes over time versions. Why did they change that rule at that time? Was it due to an accident, or to combat some (perceived) problem such as rating slipping?
