A few people have asked about the correct green for the body, so they can paint the floor sections underneath the car and the upper front parts that will be in the engine bay to match.
The genuine colour code is:
Jaguar/Daimler 4 PEA ICI 184
If you take the code to a motor factor who can mix paint as per the original codes, they will sort it. I'm not sure if Halfords will be able to as they have their own code system and frequently can't locate really old colours. I know, it took me an age to track down a colour for a '58 Aston DBR1.
In the Ipswich area there's a company called 'CARS' - yes, really... They mixed mine and put it in a rattle can - £15.
Now - the awkward bit.
The colour matches extremely well but not absolutely perfect. Cars explained why:
First, DeAgostini have used an extremely 'safe' paint as effectively we are building a toy. They have matched the colour as accurately as they can but obviously we can't buy paint from them.
In the '60's and '70's paint contained lead which altered the colour. Lead is a total no-no these days so the paint mix is identical to how it used to be but without the lead content. Hence, a tad less 'black'.
The best way to use the paint is over a red oxide primer and then a coat of black. It will darken the green fractionally so you get a very good match.
However, even over normal grey primer the colour is good. If anyone does find a better match, please post the info here.
