BigGrin Hi all

The review of this kit can be found here:-

http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=25879

Time for this one to get built. We start of building the inner framework that holds the pilot and observer so apart from the seats and seat belts radio's,pumps, dials with decals and levers. Once the assembly was finished and the floors weathered the whole was sprayed with a dilute 50% sepia wash.

The inner fuselage sides were painted and a wash used to bring out the plywood panel strips from the fuselage sides construction technique. The wash was applied heavier around the engine bay and fading as we go towards the tail.

More soon.

Nice start to a cool kit Andy. Looks like that sepia wash to replicate the plywood interior is quite an effective technique.

Well done, looking good. Cool ThumpUp

BigGrin Thanks for looking in and your comments Kev.

Most German aircraft in the 1WW were painted a light green or green-grey on all of the wood interior. The Roland having a ply skin also had the paint treatment so you can see the original colour light green in the tail area. The wash is there to represent the oil and fumes that would have passed through the fuselage from the engine. Hense it being thicker in the engine bay.

Good stuff Andy, always nice to get a bit of history and insight into a particular subject. Cool ThumpUp

I've never really been a fan of WWI aircraft, but watching your Wingnut Wing builds and your Fokker DR.I Triplane build is slowly having an effect on me, to the point where I'd like to build something from the Great War someday? I quite fancy an SE.5a (Hispano Suiza version).

BigGrin Hi All

Spent the day building the Merc engine. Wing nuts don't supply the spark plugs you can buy resin ones as an aftermarket or make your own from 1mm tube and 0.5 wire which is the option I did making 2 per cylinder. The first couple of pics show the unpainted engine with the resin rockers and the sparkys added.

Next it was the spark plug leeds and then an assembly of the painted parts and some weathering. The last two picks show the cylinder priming cups [Brown handles] which I forgot to add until last.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi All

The single control cable for the rudder was added [ all the other control surfaces use a pushrod ] to the inner fuselage then the engine bearer was made up and the engine fitted to it after the decals had been applied. the aluminium water header tank was added along with the brass oil tank.

The above assembly was then added to an outer fuselage side and then the other side joined up. Next came the tail fin assembly, upper fuselage to cover the tail plain and lastly the 4 bracing struts.

The lower wings were prepared and glued in place along with the main undercarriage and tailskid. then the four side windows were attached.

Some masking will come next before the undercoat and then light blue base coat is added.

More soon.
