Next we turn our attention to the top of the launch frame. the first item is a box made from kit supplied etch.

There are then 2 different power couplings and two phone line connection points with appropriate pluming back to the side trunking.

a swing arm polly is also added

With this done the nose cone clamp is assembled and fitted. when assembled the two arms are adjustable. the parts went together well but yet again a fit issue when mounting the assembly to the launch frame. there are two 1.5mm wide rectangular lugs that the assembly mounts over to ensure correct positioning, however once assembled the clamp has 1mm wide holes to go over the lungs Cursing again I found it easer to remove the lugs and manually position the part.

closing in on the end of the assembly, the next job is the two platforms. these fold out once the launch frame is erected. these should be wood slats within a metal frame. the kit has no texture on the wood slats, so I decided to cover them with scrap laminate deck from one of my ship builds. I hope that under paint the wood grain will show through.

ech plank of wood was individually cut out and dry fitted before being attached. I did not but them up so as to not loose the definition of individual planks.

There are two supports that hold the platforms in place. the kit parts are perfectly good but require a lot of clean up and the danger of misshaping them is high, so I chose to replace them with brass rod of the same diameter. The ends of the rod were slightly filed down to get a good fit with the lock points.

Some people have reported an issue with not enough chain for the railings but I did not have that issue, I had some left over after fitting.

the lower platform was constructed in exactly the same way, paying attention to the wood grain direction.

side walkways are then added. when folded down these should be stowed away, but the kit does not provide for this.

It certainly looks like it means business with the platforms in place. Cool

Just a quick update,

There a re a number of step rungs that need to be fitted up one side of the launch frame, clean up is a bit time consuming but otherwise straightforward

This completes the kit build BigGrin but I have a little more to do before we get to paintingFlapper

My next task was to re-work the stabiliser feet, the brass rod replaces the kit part so that I can set the pads at the correct depth for the trailer when in the launched position.

Next is a small modification to the hydraulic rams that raise the launch frame. a small amount of evergreen strip rounded off to form the connection points for the hydraulic pipe.

The pipe is copper wire and connects to the blocks I added earlier in the build

Some more plumbing was added this time using solder as the pipe diameter needed to be larger, this connects at the launch frame tank and terminate at a coupling point at the bottom of the frame. a tanker would have coupled to this.

The final modification is the the bank of gas tanks on the trailer frame. I pice of white card was used to make the rack front that is not included in the kit. the bottle heads were removed to allow fit and then replaced with scratch made ones

finally more copper wire was run to the expansion tanks to complete the additional plumbing.

this completes the build BigGrin next we can get stuck into priming
