'Bumping' a Doodlebug was considered highly dangerous. But did it actually happen?

Yes, definitely all true, some of the history programs on 'Yesterday' have had interviews with veteran pilots where they described how they did it!Cool
Raymond Baxter who co-hosted the BBC's Tomorrow's World series was a fighter pilot during the war and he described how he took part in a fighter sweep over a V2 site in northern France in 1944. As they roared over a V2 was in the process of being launched and Raymond's wingman loosed off a burst of cannon fire at it - the only recorded instance of a ballistic missile in flight having been engaged by a conventional fighter aircraft. As Raymond said later - "I dread to think what would have happened if he'd hit it!"BigGrin

I am fairly sure I have seen film footage of it being done somewhere

but it definitely happened although many squadrons banned it I believe
