The HK model is not identical to the real S-Sugar now on display at the Hendon Museum which is the July 1944 later guise, fitted with paddle blades and radome etc...
In July 1944 S-Sugar (R5868) was sent for overhaul, where it emerged in August with a change to its letter markings which were now outlined in yellow and had the letter ‘S’ added to both Tailfins, this was following No.5 group’s decision in August to outline the letter markings in yellow and add the call sign letter to both fins of all No.5 group aircraft. During the overhaul, Sugar was fitted with ‘H2S Radome’ technology to it’s underbelly (teardrop bulge), wider ‘paddle’ type propeller blades, a slipstream deflecting fairing around the tail turret and was fitted with “block” treaded tyres, which is how Sugar is now seen on display at the Hendon air Museum.
R5868’s final WWII flight was on the 25th April 1945 by which time it had flown 137 sorties and was second only to Lancaster ED888 “M2” (Mother/Mike Squared) with 140 mission’s, sadly ED888 was unceremoniously scrapped on the 8th Jan 1947.
During WWII R5868 had dropped a total of 466 tons of bombs, 467 Squadron had been the proud operator of one of the world’s most famous Lancaster’s, currently the world’s oldest surviving WWII Lancaster Bomber!
R5868 left 467 Squadron on the 23rd August 1945 to go to 15 Maintenance Unit where it became non-effective in August 1947, R5868 was then struck off charge in Feb 1956 and given the role of being an exhibition aircraft as part of the Historic Collection up to 1959. R5868 was then sent back to RAF Scampton (it’s original 1942 home) to stand as a Gateguard where it was returned to having it’s original OL-Q “Queenie” marking’s.
In 1992 following years of being stood outdoors resulting in gradual deterioration, R5868 was allocated to the Hendon Air Museum where restoration got underway to restore the aircraft back to its 'later' Sugar guise (August 1944) markings, Sugar was completed in 1982 and went on public indoor display at the then newly built Hendon Air Museum where it currently resides in pride of place.

There are only three surviving Lancaster’s which saw operational service during the Bomber Command campaign over Europe during WWII:
Lancaster R5868 "S-Sugar" - Was operated by 467 Squadron RAAF and completed 137 sorties, it sits as pride of display at the Hendon Air Museum.
Lancaster W4783 "G-George" - Was operated by No. 460 Squadron RAAF and completed 90 sorties. It was flown to Australia during the war for fundraising purposes, and was assigned the Australian serial A66-2. The aircraft was later placed on display at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra.
Lancaster KB839 - Was operated by 419 Squadron RCAF and completed 26 sorties, wearing the code letters VR-D. The aircraft was returned to Canada after the end of the war in Europe, and modified to Mk10 AR (Arctic Reconnaissance) specification. After being struck of charge, the aircraft was preserved at Greenwood Military Aviation Museum, Nova Scotia, where it is currently on display.
Sadly, no "Dambuster" special variants survive.

Also, seemingly no bomb bay option. It's been in development since 2012
If the HK version is the pre 1944 overhaul, then it's markings should look like this...

That is one model I would so much love to build, I do hope it isn't seriously stupid money when it is released!

Some nice decal options there Tom, particularly like the look of the 'Dambusters' sheet and the 'Phantom of the Ruhr' sheet too.
I don't think £270 would be overly extortionate when you think what the Hachette 1:32 Lancaster would cost as a complete partwork and the Tamiya 1:32 Mosquito is currently around the £150-160 mark so not a lot more for a bigger four engined aircraft with interior? I would imagine there will be discount offers too when it is first released and this kit will only likely increase in price after a while?

A good point Tom, I wasn't thinking of doing that though I don't think it would be overly difficult if attempted? I was thinking more along the lines of why an aftermarket decal manufacturer might go to the trouble and expense of supplying a Dambusters sheet in a scale where there is currently only the Hachette Lanc and the imminent release of the HK model to apply them to? Which makes me wonder if they know something we modellers don't in that HK are planning a Dambusters version as a subsequent release?

Kev Or could be a decal manufacturer taking a chance that some buyers might not realise or that the decal manufacturer does not realise. There is nothing to suggest that HK have in Mind a Dam Buster version, but never say never.
