Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Slide rail (top) L+R, Fixing screws x16

Fold the left-rear leg’s spring over and press it down into the groove making sure it snaps in past the centre gear and is sitting neatly in its groove. Next do the same for the left-front leg’s spring again fitting the spring neatly into the groove beneath the centre gear. Locate the corresponding notches on the rear-left rail-gear rack and slide rail and align the notches so that the gears teeth also engage neatly, then do the same for the front rail-gear rack. Now check all the parts are positioned correctly.

Lower the left slide rail top over the slide gears. Make sure the upper-limit switch remains in place and the part sits flush on top of the assembly. Lightly tighten one of the screws into the front hole and another screw into the rear hole, then the hole in the centre. Now continue until all the holes have screws in them and then fully tighten each one.

Fit the front-right and rear-right leg springs as you did for the left side making sure they fit under the centre gear. Align the notches as you did before and engage the gears’ teeth. The front gear-rail rack should come to rest so it touches the lower-limit switch.

Making sure the lower-limit switch and the rails stay in place, lower the right slide rail top into position. Turn a screw lightly into the front, rear and centre holes and then keep going until all these holes have a screw in them. Then fully tighten each one.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag. .

Thunderbird 2

Parts supplied:
Front hatch outer/inner, Hatch stay, Hinge pins x2, Springs x2, Test board, Cable clip, Screws x4.

The stay will join the front hatch inner via two hinge pins. Using tweezers fit a hinge pin from the outside and leave the ribbed tip left exposed. Then push the pin in fully and repeat for the second pin.

Fit the stopper into it`s recess with its tip seated in the notch and then using superglue affix the front hatch to its inner face via the mounting lugs.

Now place a loop at the end of the first spring onto the hook at the side of the hatch stay and repeat for the second spring.

Leg Test:

To begin the leg test remove the adhesive backing from the cable clip and fix it in place. Then feed the motor’s cable through it. Now seat the test board on top of the battery box via it`s lugs and secure it with three screws.

Fit the motor cable’s connector into the socket marked ‘Motor` followed by the upper-limit switch to the socket marked ‘Up control` and the lower-limit switch to the one marked ‘Down control’. Now connect up the battery box’s cable and the main switch’s cable to the sockets marked ‘Power’ and ‘Switch’ respectively.

Make sure the main power switch is in the OFF position and insert three batteries into the battery box making sure that they are fitted correctly. Turn the switch on the test board to the UP position and the main switch to ON. The legs should lift your model up using the slide gears and it should stop when the upper-limit switch is pressed by the advancing gear-rail rack.

Now press the switch on the test board to DOWN. The legs will retract lowering the model. It will stop when the lower-limit switch is pressed. If anything is amiss check the gears starting positions and the upper and lower limit switches are in place correctly .

The Mole

Parts supplied:
Lower/Upper chassis, Detail A x2, Detail B+C, Piston.

Glue both details A in place and then details C + B through their respective holes from the underside of the upper chassis and when set join the lower chassis part to the upper.

Finally slide the thicker end of the piston into the hole in the upper chassis and rotate it by 90 degrees.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag. .

Using four of the screws provided secure floor parts A and B together.

Fit the front hatch assembly to the underside of the floor’s wider front end via its stay and make sure the hinges are flush with the floor’s edge. Hold the hatch in position and use tweezers to pull both springs over the pins. Then making sure the springs remain on their pins place the front hatch mount over the stay and secure it with two screws.

Now fit the rear hatch via its stay to the underside of the floor and check the hinges are flush. Then fit the springs. Ensuring the springs stay in position fit the rear hatch mount and secure it using two more screws.

The Mole

Parts supplied: Side frame L+R, Slide rail, Lower frame, Gantry hinge.

Glue the slide rail to the recess on the right side frame. Now glue the left side frame in place but do not glue the piston which fits through the hole in the left side frame.

Glue the gantry hinge onto the lower frame. Then slide the piston through the main slot in the lower frame and rotate so the parts are in line with each other and press the parts together. Now fit the piston back into the chassis and rotate the parts so they are in line and then slot the gantry hinge into the T-shaped hole and slide it forward.

Check that the gantry can lift up and down.

Stage Complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag. .
