ISSUES 5 - 6 parts 24 to 28

Hi team I have now removed the Akagi from its dry dock board, she is staight with no twists or bunkeringBigGrin

I have started to plank the stern, working on the port side then the starboard side, keeping it nice and even,so that the hull will not distort, plus I have finished all the planking on the sidesBigGrin here are the photos:-BigGrin Regards Mike

It's always an unusual look Mike, I mean when you can see the planking from the inside, as so may kits have the decking done before planking so you never get to see what it looks like from inside.

She's coming along nicelyThumpUp

I just got access to the instuctions for the first parts, so should have something in the post soon, but I'm putting it away for a while, especially now as there is so much to do on Victory.
Come on you Jimmies

ISSUE 5 - 6 PARTS 24 to 28

Hi Team just a couple of photos of my progress planking the Hull at the stern, one side completed one to go.

The last photo shows the wedges I used, which came from trimming the planks, The angles were the same so I did not need to make new onesBigGrin

Questions and comments welcomeBigGrin Regards Mike

ISSUE 5 - 6 PARTS 25 to 28

Hi Team I decided to focus my attentions on the bow decking first, I can not stress enough to pay attention to detail, do not rush the build it will pay you dividends if you do.BigGrin

After I sanded and trimmed the parts this is what they looked like:-

After I had finished I found the deck did not fit snuggly, it was a bit big for the two deck gunnels, I am not going to make any ajustments untill I have all the decks trimmed and fitted, you will see the gap at the front of the two deck side pieces:-

The second thing I did was to markout the area to be trimmed on the side of the Hull base:-

I then used a craft knife and trimmed off all excess wood, I will only sand and shape the Hull around the stern keel leaving all the forming and shapping of the Hull later on as Mr T advises in the official build:-
