Hi everyone
As you've probably noticed, the four ladder strips supplied in issue 59 are hardly what I would call 'precision laser-cut' so I'd like to share a few tips on achieving a better finish.
First, careful pairing was necessary to ensure the slots in the ladder sides lined up as closely as possible.
Next using a sharp instrument, I increased the width and depth of the slots slightly.
Finally, before glueing in the ladder steps, I made sure that the ends were perfectly square, then chamfered the ends of each step so that they located in the slots more effectively.
Using the same technique on all four companionway ladders produced a more satisfying result than my first attempt which simply followed the magazine instructions.
Hope these tips help a little
Happy building
