BigGrin Hi all

The Grom-class destroyers were built on the isle of white for the Polish navy and two finished ships were delivered before the outbreak of the 2nd WW. The O.R.P Grom [Thunder] and O.R.P Błyskawica [Lightening] both escaped Poland at the start of the war and became part of the R.N. Both ships serving with distinction although the Grom was lost in the Norwegian Campaign.

The Błyskawica also took part in the Dunkirk operation where she escorted stricken ships back to the UK and then went on to serve with distinction to the end of the war before being returned to Poland. The only ship to be awarded the 'Virtuti Militari' Poland's highest military decoration she is today a museum ship at Gdynia.

This is a 140 issue hachette partwork scale 1/100 only available in Poland and consists of the ship in a dry dock setting both the ship and dry dock are included. The dock still exists and can be found in Southampton today namely the King George V Graving Dock the warehouse in the model can still be seen today next to the dock.

Oh sweet, I've been following a build of this for some years now, unfortunately the modeler is, well, not very ambitious in getting it to look nice. Something I suspect is not going to be an issue here. BigGrin

Hi Andy,

I'm rally looking forward to see this build as this ship belonged to the navy of my home country, I actually visited ship itself. Remember that ages ago I have really unsuccessful attempt to build paper-cardboard model of this ship in 1:200 scale LOL LOL

If you need any help with instruction just let me known, I will be more than happy to help with some translation/interpretation.

Regards
Arek

BigGrin Hi All

Progress is being made, the first pic shows how far I got yesterday and the rest todays progress. This includes planking the deck below the 1st bow deck hole and finishing the deck placements and then adding the strengtheners to the bow and the provided balsa blocks at the stern.

That gets me up to issue 19/20 next its the fairing of the hull ready for the planking to begin.

More soon .

BigGrin Hi all

The hull has been faired and is now ready for the 1st planks. If you noticed I did not remove the laser cut burn from the outside of the hull formers earlier in the build this is where it pays off.

As you sand the formers back the burn is removed and you can gage how much needs to be removed and when to stop.
