BigGrin Hi all

Planking has started. Firstly three rows were placed starting in line with the rear deck height and then repeated for the other side. These planks were left overnight to dry then the pins removed.

The bow area above the planks already laid were next put in position and then three more rows were added below the planks laid along the hull. Next starting next to the false keel 4 more rows were added to either side of the hull.

More soon.

BigGrin Thanks for looking in and your comments everyone.

@ Arek, the planks are 2x7x300mm lime wood/bass wood but there's only one layer on this ship. Depending on how she looks after sanding back I might have a couple of choices on the way I might go to get a good finish.

History Has always been a fascination for myself and when you can add the history of a person or person's to a model your building in my eyes it brings it to life and gives it a more meaningful tribute to those who served be it a ship, aircraft or vehicle.

ORP Błyskawica or lightning had a distinguished life along with other Polish ships operating as a Polish flagged ship's within the Royal navy during WW2.

The story of the Ferus brothers is one such moment that brings history to life and is related in the link below. It also gives a timeline for the dio I am building because after stirling work at Dunkirk, atlantic escort duty's and the defence of Cowes which had 75th remembrance services and concerts in 2017.

Lightning after more atlantic escort duty's a few of which were sticky going with wolf pack attacks and escorting the Queen Mary but in 1942 ended up in the mediterranean and took part in the Torch operations.

After the Torch operation and still serving in the mediterranean on 7 May 1943, near the island of Morettino, bombs damaged the destroyer’s rudder and the ship had to be sent for repair, first to Algiers and later to Gibraltar and, on 11 May, to Plymouth. The repair lasted until December, exactly 168 days.

The above date pinpoints the dio I am building between May and December 1943 at Plymouth and the King george V dock, how close can you get to bringing history to life.

If you never read anything else read this account of the Ferus Brothers lives a priest and 2 twins thrown into WW2.

BigGrin Hi all

The planking has now been done and the stern balsa blocks added next comes the sanding and filling where needed. The MDF parts for the bridge have been glued together, still lots to be added to this so its only placed in position on the ship.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi all

The stern balse blocks have been shaped and then the whole hull sanded back to get everything level, more filler will be needed in places but that will be after more is added to the hull sides. Next the deck step from upper to lower level was shaped using the provided paper profiles.

Another layer was added to the bridge.

Next is what makes this kit a bit different you are provided with thin aluminium plates in two sizes that have rivet detail. Starting at the lower deck step and working towards the stern the plates are laid in a set pattern to reproduce the deck of the real ship.

Once the contact adhesive has fully cured the plate edges will be trimmed and shaped to the hull edges.

More soon .

Riveted metal deck plating has to be a first in any ship Partwork and can’t say I’ve seen this in any ship kit, a nice detail point they’ve included Cool
