Stage 117 Contains: Blocks 4mm, Counter Timber Decorations, Gallery Man Decoration, Crown and Shield Decorations, Gallery Bottom Decoration, Starboard Gallery Leaf Decoration, Deadeyes 5mm, Pillars.

Retrieve the 0.5mm brass wire and 5mm deadeyes. Cut a 40mm length of wire and place a deadeye in the centre of it with the wire resting in the groove. Cross the ends of the wire over on the other side of the deadeye, as shown in Step 117A. Use flat nose pliers to twist the wires around three times then cut one of the lengths down to the twist.

Insert the wire through the first hole in the starboard mizzen chainwale, (starting from the bow), so that the deadeye rests on the wale. Bend the end of the wire up as shown in Step 117D, then place the end link of the 1mm chain (from Stages 88 and 93), over the wire. Bend the wire around to complete the loop and remove any excess. Secure with glue if necessary. Step 117E shows how the assembly should look at this point.

Take one of the two strap frets from Stages 108 and 110. Remove one of the straps from the fret and smooth any rough edges with a file. Nail the strap onto the strake as indicated in Step 117G, directly below the deadeye. Cut the chain hanging from the deadeye at the point where it meets the hole in the top of the strap. Loop the free end of the chain through the hole in the strap as shown in Step 117H. Repeat Steps 117A to 117H to fit a second deadeye, chain and strap aft of the first. Fit a further four 5mm deadeyes, straps and chains along the chainwale.

Repeat this whole process for the port mizzen chainwale as shown in Step 117J.

Stage complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 118 Contains: Dummy Guns, Brass Wire 1mm, Crown and Shield Decorations, Statues, Stern Decoration.

Prepare 18 x 5mm deadeyes and eight 4mm deadeyes in the same way as those in Stage 117. Another way to fit the straps and chains is to first attach the end of the chain to the strap, as shown in the inset photo of Step 118B, then nail the strap to the strake. Cut the chain to length so that it reaches the underside of the wale, then pass the wire from one of the 5mm deadeyes through the hole in the wale, hook it through the chain and cut off the excess.

Add three more 5mm deadeyes aft of the first one, making sure there is enough space between the chains of the third and fourth for the gun port. Add another five 5mm deadeyes so that there are a total of nine on the starboard chainwale. Make sure you leave space between the chains so that they do not obstruct the gun ports.

Fit three 4mm deadeyes into the remaining holes in the main starboard chainwale. Step 118F shows the completed mizzen and main chainwales. Fit the nine 5mm deadeyes, chains and straps to the main port chainwale, starting from the front. Fit three 4mm deadeyes into the three aft holes of the chainwale, as shown in Step 118H.

Prepare in the same way as before, 14 shield and crown decorations. Glue one in front of each of the first seven starboard gun ports. Make sure the circled area shown in Step 118I remains free. Glue the other seven decorations to the port side of the ship, as shown in Step 118J.

Stage complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.

Stage 127 Contains: Lantern Fret, Lantern Top, Lantern Base, Lantern Centre, Blocks 4mm.

Retrieve six eyepins. Cut the shanks of the eyepins to 2mm in length. Drill four 2mm deep holes in the underside of the lower balcony as shown in Step 127B, then glue an eyepin into each hole. Drill a hole through the rudder at the point shown in Step 127C, glue an eyepin into either side.

Pass a 3mm ring through the last link of the remaining length of chain. Following the points numbers indicated in Steps 127E and 127F, hook the ring through the first eyepin (1). Pass a second ring through the chain, roughly 80mm from the end then hook that ring through the second eyepin (2). Hook another ring through the chain, 105mm from the second ring. Hook the ring through the starboard eyepin on the rudder (3). Cut away the excess chain beyond the third eyepin.

Repeat Steps 127D to 127G to fit the port chain. Make sure you cut away the excess chain from the port eyepin (3). Step 127J shows how the chain should look at the end of this stage.

Stage complete, carefully store any remaining parts in a stage labelled bag.
