PACK 11
This pack deals with the two car doors, inner panels and side windows. The doors are actually a complex set of parts, engineered so that the windows wind up and down correctly and the inner door pockets are hinged, and open.
The assembly can be achieved by following the kit instructions but if you have added leather trim to your seats, you will want to trim the inner door panels too.
Cut a piece of leather larger than the door panel and cover the back with a good quality double sided tape. Cut one edge of your leather with a steel rule and knife to get a perfectly straight edge.
Peel off the backing paper and stick the leather to the door panel so that it sits neatly under the door top roll. Press the leather down firmly all around and into the panel edge recesses. Very carefully trim away the excess leather using a new blade – leather blunts blades very quickly.
From the rear of the panel, cut out the pocket opening and press through all of the locating holes with a pin. Turn the panel back over and carefully cut out the winder handle hole. Enlarge all of the other holes with a blade, or cocktail stick.
TIP – At the hinge end of the door panel, near the top, there is a hole for a screw that will attach the panel to the outer door shell. DO NOT make this hole larger. Rather, just make a small horizontal slit. When the fixing screw eventually goes through this hole, you should be able to pull the leather back in place to hide the screw head.
All of the remaining door assembly can be done by following the kit instructions.
If you are using good quality thin leather, it will have no adverse effect on any of the door or window operations.
The doors can now be fitted to the main body shell but make sure that the large screw that fixes the hinge inside the car is absolutely tight so that there is NO play or wobble in the hinge.
