Hey guys,
I have only built 1 ship before, HMS bounty.
Ive subscribed to build HMS victory and will be following these forums for tips and inspiration from you experts out there.
As bounty was my first project you can imagine it was very basic, And so with victory i want it as realistic as possible but like i say im very very new to modeling. I hope and im sure i can get all the help ,info and tips from you guys who know exactly what your talkin about.

Yes that's the one,
I really enjoyed it, but like i say very basically done and that's why id like to get this one
absolutely spot on, I can even go back to the bounty and re-do allot of things id missed and have her looking how she should look :)

Welcome along. This is my first wooden sailing ship (although I have dabbled a bit in modelmaking), and can happily say that we are in good company, there seem to be several, ship-building veterans who know one end of a planking tool from another along with some keen historian fellows who have already posted some very useful information. Coming back here often and reading the threads will hopefully help us make the best of this model. Schnellboots on back burner

HMS victory is a very large project for me and im going to be spending allot of money, time, dedication and love on her,I hope i can get her to look as if id just taken her from portsmouth.
I would like to be by the end of the project, very good at what im doing and gain a great deal of knowledge at the same time,and looking at some of your posts everyone! im confident i can achieve my goals with all your wisdom and skills.

My first anchor attempt  The Seizings i used sewing cotton and then painted it but i think maybe i should have left it alone. The Puddening is linnen thread which i found useful when i was building hms bounty.

Never built before. Just hoping to do the model justice, and have some fun along the way. Their are lots of experienced boat/ship builders in this forum, so should be able to get plenty of help if needed.

I have'nt built a model for over 30 years and then only airfix models always fancied trying something extra special. Reading some of the post; I feel I might have bit of more than I can chew. I dont understand a lot of what is being said in these forums, can anyone recomend a good book to help me get into the Lingo techniques etc.

I also have a problem with some of the lingo, perhaps folk could translate as they go along? Eg: Tompions = 'Cannon muzzle plugs', Tackle = 'Ropey bits' Etc In the meantime, it's Wikepedia entries all the way.. Schnellboots on back burner

I think muzzle plugs are the covers you see on the end of the cannon, its to stop and dirt/debris from gettin in there as it would make the cannon missfire or even blow it to peices... IMO anyhow Ropey bits.....erm!!

If you have some money to spare, you might be interested in The Young Sea Officers Sheet AnchorThis book was originally published in 1808 and the second edition in 1819. It is full of entertaining facts about seamanship in the days of sail with lots of line drawings. Currently being given away on Amazon for less than £10 !! Guess where I got my original information about puddening and seizing from in relation to the anchor ring? More about that shortly in the HMS Halifax Leeds Build! Mike T
