BigGrin Hi All

This will be my build of the ZM kit ,there is a kit review in the link below:-

http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&t=29097

On with the build. The instructions start with the cockpit assembly this includes the fuel tank and radio's at its rear the cockpit has instruments and switches to either side of the pilot, the molded parts have been removed then sprayed grey ready for the cockpit etch. Some weathering has been done on the cockpit assembly but will be finished once the etch is fixed.

Next its the fuselage each side is in three parts so they need joining together then the fuselage former's are added along with some other parts. The fuselage inner's were sprayed interior green and weathered with a sepia brown wash.

Next the tail wheel/arrester hook assembly was made up and some etch added.

You can see the parts dry fitted in one of the pictures.

More soon

BigGrin Hi All

More done the engine was started still a lot to add like etch ignition cables so no pics as yet. Also carried on with the lower fuselage and inner wing assembly.

This is assembled very much like the real aircraft with a central chassis that the inner wing spars are added this assembly is next fixed to the lower fuselage then the lower outer wings are added out to the folding wing pivot.

Internally ribs, under carriage mounts are added around the wheel wells and more ribs around the inner 20 mm guns. The wheel wells have been sprayed white and more cockpit green used around the gun wells.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi All

The build continues with the construction of the outer wings another 20 mm gun is in each.

Each outer wing has an inner double spar that is part of the folding wing mechanics once the spar and gun is fitted the upper wing is glued in place and the wing tip added. A pivot is mounted onto the outer wings main spar then the outer wings are added to the inner wing assembly by attaching the pivot to the inner wing spar an a metal rod through a poly cap at the rear spar. The two inner upper wing covers are then added.

I left the access hatches for the guns open but I will be sealing them up later in the build. Etch parts have also been added to the wheel wells.

Next I started on the engine assembly the cylinders went together well and I added the etch ignition coil to the front. the cylinders were painted silver and dirtied up with Tamiya black panel line accent. The rest of the engine front is barley grey again panel line was used here. Next the exhaust system was added all painted with gunze metallic black lacquer and the last thing added was the central cylinder covers painted black.

More soon.

BigGrin Thanks for looking in and your comments both-

@Derbyvet I agree its not an aircraft with the lines of the spitfire but its endurance and ability to deliver constantly as a piston powered fighter in the jet age that could carry the load of a B-17 bomber on one power plant.

Several times jet powered aircraft were introduced to replace it and were always found wanting mostly due to the fact they ran out of fuel long before the trusty Spad which with drop tanks could fly 9 hours plus.

The only jet aircraft to come close is the warthog or A-10 but it to was limited in its range without in flight refueling.

Love it or hate it and some days I do and others I dont but its 30 years plus front line service elevates it in my eyes above the thoroughbred piston aircraft like the Spitfire, Mustang, Jug and Corsair who were all cutting edge in there time but were soon surpassed by more modern aircraft.
