hello there fellow ship modelers
before I start cutting out the gun ports is it ok to be a tad under size hole wise like for example instead of 12mm on all corners it is 1.97 or 1.99 etc. because I tried several time to make a jig that is 12mm X12mm I seem to miss the 12mm measurement also can I just clean out the square hole with a sanding stick if I do not have a square file. by the way Alan can you tell me where you got your square file from thank you

I bought some ladies emery boards for nails from John Lewis or similar. They are exactly 12 mm at the widest point and ideal for sanding to the correct size.

Hi Ron,

The instructions call for the ports to be 12x12mm therefore you should make your ports as close to this as you can. It can be easily achieved by using emery boards, the same kind as ladies would use for their nails. Just check your size frequently until you have the size needed.

My files are part of a set.

I need to decide either buy the emery boards or the perm grit square file or file set I doubt I will be able to find any john Lewis emery boards or the permi grit files in the US but I look for something similar

Hi Alan
you didn't mentioned it in the video but did you use a ruler or calipers to
make sure the gun port holes were 12mm X 12mm I hope they do not need to be
perfect close maybe I will try to get them at 12mm thank you

Hi Ronald, normally I check the ports by making up a jig. Made one up from a wooden strip that was 12x12mm…..

Alan
