Last year of the Tornado - competition entry

Operation 'Telec' [ Greek for Purposeful ] or as one RAF wag put it 'Tell Everyone Leave Is Cancelled took place in 2003 with 100 plus RAF aircraft being involved and 32 Tornado's. The operation bases were firstly situated in Qatar and Kuwait before all the aircraft were moved to Kuwait the last Tornado being withdrawn in 2009.

Now on with the kit and parts, I got the kit from Jadlam at a very decent price but as you can see its a German ECR Tornado so the decals cant be used and it will need converting to a RAF GR-4 config. The kit is up to Revell's usual standard with some nice panel lines and there usual instructions. To do the conversion resin aftermarket cockpit, tailpipes and wheels came from Aires and Armory For the missing pods and bombs flightpath replacements were used along with there conversion and flaps sets. There are reports that the revel undercarriage is a bit weak so aftermarket metal ones will be used. Eduard masks for the cockpit glazzing and the operation Telic decals aquired. Last of all lead weight for the nose to stop it becoming a tail dragger.

A dio base has been aquired along with an RAF dio, ground power unit and bording ladder sets from Flightpath.

SAM publications also do a great book with lots of pictures called the Panavia Tornado.

Good luck to all who are entering this comp.

Andy

BigGrin Hi all

Started with the cockpit resin set, lots of casting blocks to remove and then some trimimg to get it to fit the front fuselage halves. The front wheel well was also fixed in position to aid in the fitting of the cockpit. Its easyer to fit the cockpit side rails directly to the fuselage halves rather than glueing them to the cockpit as you dont get any gaps to fill this way. The two cockpit consuls had there etch footpedals added. Once all fitted in a dry test run the cockpit floor was sprayed with under coat as were the other parts then the cockpit floor was sprayed dark grey. lots more painting and detail to be added.

More soon.

BigGrin Hi all

The resin cockpit has been painted and fitted into the fuselage and then the two halves were joined together. The nose radar was painted and assembled but before it was glued into the nose lead weights were added to the space in the nose to stop it becoming a tail dragger.

Next the etch for the canopy was prepared and added to the kit parts makes the canopy look quite impresive.

The wings as you can see need a fair amount of butchery so the flap, aileron and spoilers etch kit will fit but its easy enough to do with care.

Last of all today the resin tail motors were prepared and then dry fitted into the tail section. These will be given the Alclad treatment in the next few days.

More soon.
