Sounds like the end stop sensor isn't working or wired up wrong way round. The easiest way to check is to unplug the head wires and completely remove the head. It's ok to switch on with the head disconnected. Power up and you'll see the head motor turning. Gently place a piece of card in the right sensor. The head motor should stop. If not try the left sensor. If it suddenly turns the other way then it's the sensor wires crossed.

another possibility is that you fitted the Y shaped assembly on the base of the dome in the wrong orientation. one of the arms has a piece sticking down off it that has to contact the sensor to stop the rotation. ensure you have correctly fitted that part

Hi there I had the same problem and I found the fix. 1st on mine on the MCU board at the left head sensor LH-IR there was a pin missing, it came like tht (see image attached). I solder another pin there and tested again. Now the problem with mine was that the head movement was to aggressive both towards the roght and than left. Lucky for me when I purchesed the leg mottor few months back the newsagent had a duplicate and i both them both. This morning frustrated I said let me test that motor and see how that one behaves and guess what that one works as it should. The only thing that I have to do now is to swith the mettal head of the motor as the leg motor head is bit different than the one for the head. If you are part of the Facebook group Build your own R2-D2 you ll see there more videos
