I have got R2 to sit still for ages now in Static Display Mode.
All you do is power up & connect to R2 via Wi-fi (direct mode) to your controller device - you can then enable the matrix lights (2 small front, 1 long rear) in Manual Mode, after that all you do is turn off Wi-fi on your controller device.
R2 will happily just sit there with matrix lights on. Eventually after a few minutes his front eye will go out but the rear Yellow light will still flash.
Once you re-enable Wi-fi (on your controller device), you can connect to R2 and he will come back to life & gain full control.
