Hi people... Can you give any Suggestions on how best to use sanding sealer? Would you use it direct to wood before starting sanding? Or sand to a good finish then apply the sanding sealer? would you use the sanding sealer after staining the wood? Many thanks in advance for any reply, Ian Ian Builds in progress: E-type, HMS Victory, HMS Endeavour, HMS Soverein of the Seas Wish list: Bentley Blower http://forum.model-space...spx?g=posts&m=30439

Hi Ian,sanding sealer is a cellulose based grain sealer, normally used to seal the grain of wood,if you read the instruction on the tin,it recommends that you thin it down first with cellulose thinners.I use it a lot this way, after sanding down first with a fine grade sandpaper I then apply the first coat,I then use wet&dry 180 grade for another rub down and apply a second coat.you can continue doing this until you satisfied with the result.if varnishing or painting after this, another rubdown with wet&dry 360 grade and then wipe all residue off with a damp cloth.when staining wood,do so before sandsealing and let dry for 24hours. Hi Ian all that Karl has said is good advice for the use of sanding sealer, but did you know u can make your own by adding talcum powder to normal celulose dope, i think its 1 desert spoons of talc to a 500 ml tin of dope, hope this helps as propriety sanding sealers can be quite expensive compared to a tin of dope.Hope this helps Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
