Ive been going through the packets of planks checking the contents and ive found that packs 31-32-33 the wood as a different density it is more of a hard wood in comparrison to the limewood and a smooth feel to it... In fact im struggling to hammer the pins through even after ive managed to drill a pilot hole through the plank.. Also bent quite a few pins in doing so.... Is this normal to have this kind of wood for the build in the packs.... Building.

Hi I have had similar across some of the kits i have. What i think its likely to be is were the plank has been cut down from , lets say a knot in the tree. I have had planks so hard that even soaking them has not helped and because of the grain they snap rather than bend. Its not a fault with the kit but just the fact that wood being a natural product is never going to be consistant. I guess you could contact cs to see if they can replace those particular packs or if you feel inclined you could buy some extra lengths from the likes of cornwall model boats. Tony Happy Modelling

Tony Its basically simple that this type of wood should not be supplied due to quality control..... I thought about contacting CS but whos to say i wont get more... So ive ordered some from Cornwallmodelboats..... Cant argue withe the price.... Building.

That is a good choice. You get longer lengths to work with and its always good to have some spare wood as you progress through your build. Hope things Your build continues well. Tony Happy Modelling

Look at the picture below at the planks and you can see the top two. They are a reddish colour and in my opinion they are not limewood.... Building.

I see what you are saying but i have had this issue and i think its were they use a harder part of the "tree" when they are cutting the planks. What i found is they are ok on a straight run of planking but even soaking them they tend to snap if you bend them. Sure all will be well with your cmb replacements. Tony Happy Modelling

The wood supplied with Victory was changed to birch some time ago, it was birch that was supplied for the official video build. Birch is a little more tricky to use but is still a good wood for modelling purposes.....  Regards Alan

Well i decided to remove those top two planks upon each side as it was annoying me... I have a set of swan norton no3 scapel with no11 blades that work wonders..... Ive put two back from the other packs and do the rest later..... Building.

The shade of the wood really only becomes an issue if you intend to build her as a natural build, if you're doing the painted version then it will all be painted over so won't be seen or noticed.... Regards Alan

If You are doing the painted version then the wood colour is of no consequence you could also cut the planks to size and then mark and pre-drill where the pins are going to go. You should also be aware that wood when varnished will take on different colours even if they all look the same colour in the raw state. An example of this can be shown in the Krick Gulnara build I did a while back all the provided planks looked the same colour apart from a few which I deliberatly mixed in so as to get a variation and contrast to show the hull curves. I have been slowly planking to the top of the ribs and now i have have a question... The pictures show the level of where im upto do i leave the rib bit or do i place another length of plank which the ribs will only over half a plank.. Ant62 attached the following image(s): Building.

Hi Ant, looking closely at your build I believe you are working on build stage 27 and from what I can see everything looks to be going well, you're doing a lovely job of the planking. As for your query on the tops of the frames, I would suggest you have a close look and finish build stage 28. This build stage covers the marking of the frame tops to determine the height of the bulwarks. If after completing build stage 28 you still have a query then please get back to me. The positioning of your entry port also looks good..... Regards Alan
