Know what you mean very nice. Will she be as fast to build as sail? I thought I would go for the other clipper, Cutty Sark, 'cos I was working at Greenwich when she was being restored and burnt. Really missed her masts when cutting down through the park in the morning. Fortunately they were already removed to Chatham for storage prior to the fire. The sight of those masts used to set me up for the day.LOL

I know what you mean, in the early 80's I worked in a small printers down there (Greenwich Graphics) and I used to go and sit by her during my lunch breaks, but unfortunatley the bench was in the beer garden..oh beggar, I had to try the beer you know!

I lived just across the river to Cutty Sark in my misspent youth, and I think that with building the plastic models around at that time...mid to late 60s early 70s I fell in love with sailing ships, I used to love crossing the river on the old steam ferries at Woolwich then cycling to see Cutty Sark, oh the sweet memories of youth. I built the Del Prado version of Cutty Sark in wood though it almost came to blows when it came to applying the copper plating to her hull and making a thorough mess of it...bandages and plasters became part of my tool kit plus a book Mastery of The French Language For Dummies Cursing I recommend the build if you are considering something to do in between your Victory build though. You know what? There's more romance on here than on match.com.Laugh
What is it about sail that drab grey slab sides don't have? Confused
What is it that steam locomotives have, and fishy smelling diesel electrics don't?Confused
What is it that airplanes with propellers have that modern jets don't?Confused With the exception of Concord of course. Even that takes me back to Greenwich when the last ones flew back into Heathrow. All work stopped and we stood out in the street spellbound. Even management joined us without one word of complaint.ConfusedCrying Goodness I think I'm getting all sentimental.Blushing (Wipes away a tear)

Match.com eat your heart out, I'm cancelling my sub. BigGrin There is more kindred spirit on here in the last few weeks than I found on there in over a year.ThumpUp
OhMyGod Am I getting old?LOL

Shipmates ahoy.

I can thoroughly recomend MARCLE MODELS the British importer of many ranges of card kit. There are several manufacturers of varying quality with ships from Roman to the latest in a wide range of scales. If you are interested give him a ring on 01494 765910.

Regarding Plastic kits, be prepared to substitute wooden masts and spars. The plastic ones to scale are hopelessly feeble, Alternativly a hull model could be quite impressive

Tell me about those plastic masts! Makes the rigging a very delicate tensioning operation.Cursing And then there are the duster storms to cope with.Crying At least the rigging stops the masts, spars, and sails from getting lost.BigGrin Its untangling the blighters. Confused I can understand why they were often cut loose when hanging overboard!LOL

Hi I'm doing DeAgostini's HMS Surprise, this one although,

I think i will put her to one side and concentrate on my Victory as I will have help from all you guys and gals, so I'm going to batten down the hatches, and get stuck in to The Victory. 1.48
