It seems HKM have really dropped the ball with this kit. They have completely messed up the stabilizer halves, so that the port stabilizer is made up from 2 lower halves and the starboard is made up of 2 upper halves. For a £400 pound kit I think this is terrible. Let's hope they do something to sort it out or I can see kits being sent back.

Looking at your photos Daran, I think basically, the upper and lower halves (the ones with the hatch detail are the lowers and the ones without the hatch detail are uppers?) will mate together perfectly well except that you'll end up with one stabiliser with no pins at all and the other with two sets of pins that probably interfere with each other and you'll also have to do something about the locator pins that are present within each half - is that correct?

If it is what's to stop you cutting one set of pins off and then drilling the other stabiliser and fitting them to that one? Or am I not understanding the HKM fault here?

You are correct Kev, you will have to cut of locating pins for the alignment of the halves and then remove the 4mm locating pins and glue them to the correct half and then cut out the semi circle that fits around those pins. It is a fairly easy fix for those who can, but for those who build oob it could cause an issue, but its the fact that a £400 kit that is not able to be built out of the box without cutting it about that I find really poor.

Totally agree mate, in fact it's outrageous that such mistakes should be allowed to happen in the first place. Just emphasises the fact that this kit was released before it was ready and without a proper evaluation of the build sequence. Most likely driven by the news of WnW's much vaunted Lanc kit!?

I think HKM panicked when they heard about the WNW Lancasters!

Hello guys,

This is my first post on here. I am Nige, the guy behind Nigel's Modelling Bench on YouTube.

I see there is a lot of content on this site about the HK kit, so I'm going to look through the pages and add where I see fit.

On the subject of the tailplanes, well, what can I say... great innit!!

Here's a video i put together on an easy fix for it. Or.. you could just remove all the location lugs and put two lengths of tube through the fuselage?

https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=XRXSpN5OyXk

I hope you like the video.

Regards

Nige

Hello Nigel and welcome, I follow your YT site, I also comment. I like what you are doing with the Lanc, but I feel the mods you are making should have been dealt with by HKM before it was released.BigGrin Cool
