The Tiger I, a German heavy tank of World War II, was deployed from 1942 in Africa and Europe commonly in independent heavy tank battalions with the designation Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger Ausf. E often shortened to Tiger. The Tiger I gave the Wehrmacht its first armoured fighting vehicle that used the KwK 36 88-mm gun. In total 1,347 were built between August 1942 and August 1944. Production was over time phased out in favour of the Tiger II. The Tiger I has been called an excellent design for its time, however it was over-engineered, using expensive materials and labour-intensive production methods. The Tiger was prone to some types of track failures and breakdowns, and had limited range given its high fuel consumption. It was expensive to run, but normally mechanically reliable. It was also difficult to transport, and vulnerable to immobilisation when mud, ice and snow froze between its overlapping and interleaved Schachtellaufwerk-pattern road wheels, often causing them to jam. This was a problem on the Eastern Front in the muddy rasputitsa (semi-annual mud seasons) and winter weather conditions. The tank was named "Tiger" by Ferdinand Porsche, and the Roman numeral was added after the later Tiger II entered production. The early designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung H (‘‘Panzer VI version H’’, abbreviated PzKpfw VI Ausf. H) where 'H' denoted Henschel as the designer/manufacturer. It was given ordnance inventory designation SdKfz 182. The tank was later redesignated as PzKpfw VI Ausf. E in March 1943, with ordnance inventory designation SdKfz 181. Tigers had a crew of 5. They could travel up to 23mph on roads and were powered by the Maybach 21, 353cc V-12 engines that delivered 642hp. ian smith attached the following image(s): Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood. I know there are accuracy faults with these kits, but if you take them for what they are, Academy have produced a very crisp set of parts and they do look really good when assembled. Nice update to your build.

Thanks for looking in Andy and Darren. Darren agree there are accuracy faults with the kit, as you say they are very well presented and look good. I liked how the tiger-1 showed the interior and the detailing within the turret. Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood. Finished Builds Corel HMS Victory cross section.

Step 1. The centre and rear circle parts were glued in. The wheel arms were glued on. I also added the idle wheel pins at this stage as I am spray painting the model. the rear bulkhead of the tank was added at this stage to seal the interior. The two bracket shape parts were glued to the front bulkhead. The interior was then masked using Tamiya Tape ready for spraying the interior of the engine compartment and tank floor Tamiya Dark Grey. ian smith attached the following image(s): Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood. Stage 2. All the road wheels, Idler wheels and drive sprockets have been glued together. The interior of the tank has been sprayed using Tamiya XF-24 dark grey for the engine bay area. The base of the model was then sprayed with life colour UA 084 German Desert sand Yellow. The wheels where also sprayed with the same colour for the base colour. The tyres where then added using Nato black paint. And the bolt details where added using life colour UA 201 German panzer Gelbbraun Paint. I then masked and sprayed the light interior colour along the sides using life colour UA 232 German Effenbein. ian smith attached the following image(s): Current builds.Hachettes build the bismark,HMS Victory, HMS Hood.
