Thanks Alan.

This session will complete Pack 2.

There has to be a better way to lay out the rivet lines than the one in the instructions. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Until next time.....
I'll be hanging out on the L'Hermione

Making nice progress with your build Mark and all looking very good, well done. I notice from another post that you are awaiting the lighting kit for this - that will certainly add a nice touch of realism to the finished model! CoolThumpUp

Thanks Kev, yes, I have ordered the lighting kit from DeAg UK at a very high cost.
54.99 GBP. that converts to right at $75 US. Wish that the US site would catch up with sales of the enhancements. I would still like to buy the display stand for the DC 3 and the Soliel Royal but shipping is too high.

Packs 3 & 4

Since packs 3 and 4 dealt with the two sides of the passenger cabin, I'm logging them together.

Followed the instructions with the exception that I decided to paint the metal fuselage parts before I glued them in place. Time will tell if this was wise or not.

Thanks for watching

Well my first major screw up. I was fiddling with the various sections of the aircraft and DROPPED the flight deck section on the ceramic floor.Cursing Cursing Crying Confused Angry

All of the internal bits became dislodged and are now rattling about the cockpit!

Any advice on how to pop the top off so I can refit the bits?

Thanks

Hi Mark.

Not good to drop any model Crying Crying

I have had a look back through the official build that I put together and have this question: Can you tell which pieces have become detached? As this will give me a better idea of a possible solution.

As I see it at the moment you have two possible solutions.

Remove the roof of the cockpit and refit the loose parts. This depends on how much adhesive you used and exactly where it was applied. We can discuss this later and I can also provide some replacement metal skin if required.

Or

Very carefully enlarge the door entrance area into the cockpit. Do the repairs and then rebuild the rear wall of the cockpit remembering that this will not be seen when the build is completed and if done carefully may not be seen after the repair with the sections separated.

Don`t despair, lets see if we can work something out.

Regards
Derek

Pretty much the pilot seats and center console perhaps the small levers too.

I think removing roof is the only option but I did glue it well with ca. I have plenty of spare skin as I'm frugal with materials

Hoping to repair this as opposed to buying the entire pack 1

If removing the roof section the one issue I can see will be if you have glued the roof to the top of the instrument panel as well as the outer edges, because you wont be able to access that point to separate the parts.

Hi Mark.

Firstly as you have used CA I would not try to dissolve the CA, as anything that would do that is liable to dissolve the roof panel.

If you have not glued the roof panel anywhere but on the outside edges, then it "MAY" be possible with a very sharp knife to cut the roof panel away from the wooden frame, but this will not be easy due to the shapes you will have to cut round. This will also depend on your exterior metal panels. If they overlap the joint between the wooden frame of the cockpit and the plastic roof then damage may occur to the panelling causing more issues.

If it were me, my first choice would be to open the back panel of the cockpit, but this is obviously down to your personnel choice and the tools you have available

My Reasons:

Only dealing with wood.
Can see exactly where you are cutting.
No exterior damage whist taking apart.
Easiest repair to the area worked on.

If you have a dremel tool or similar, then careful use of a cutting disc should open the back panel. Attached picture shows a possible way to open the back panel, then repair is trace the replacement pieces, cut and glue in place. When painted should be good.

In the end any choice of repair will be down to you and your skills, plus available tools.

Just tackled repairing the damage from dropping the nose section the other day.

I'm glad I took Derek's advice and cut out the back bulkhead as opposed to 'popping" the top. Turned out better than I expected.

Really pleased you managed to get your problem sorted with Derek's guidance.

Once you get that all together you will never know there had been a problem.

Hope the test of your build goes well.
