Hi guys,

I've had my eye on a 1:200 scale Bismarck kit for a while now. In fact that was what i was originally looking for when i stumbled on my U96 kit (too good a price to miss). Originally, i wanted the Amati kit through Modelspace, which is reputed to be the most accurate:
https://www.model-space....-bismarck-full-kit.html
Now these haven't been available for some time now, and i doubt the kit will be re-released (never say never as i know a few builders who would sign up for that one if they ever did!). So a week or so back, when i saw Hachette were re-releasing their partwork 'Build the Battleship Bismarck', i decided i wanted to give it a try. BigGrin

http://www.battleshipbis...0Tt6n0jw5IaAmiXEALw_wcB

Now, i am going to enter into this build with an open mind, unbiased and with no preconceptions. Having said that, the opinions stated will be mine, and mine alone. I appreciate that this re-release is significantly different from the original release, namely metal hull and plastic decking. But i am interested enough in the kit to give it a go.

BigGrin The first two issues have arrived today, and i will be starting the build later, with a review of what i've received so far and build log.

Here's to a happy build ThumpUp

Regards
Gray

BigGrin Thank you Alan, so do i Laugh

Ok, so first impressions. Comes well packaged, with issues 1 & 2 in in separate polythene bags. You also get a free A4-sized cutting mat (handy for cutting the plastic around the parts BigGrin). The magazine looks well laid out, with images on the left-hand side of the page and relevant build text next to it on the right.
The middle pages give tips on modellers workshop, although i would think most subscribers would have most, if not all, of the tools required. The later pages cover the history & destiny of the ship. So, overall, a reasonable first impression of the magazine and packaging.

The photos show the details of Issue 1. I won't do this for future issues, but just wanted to show what you can look forward to each issue.

BigGrin Hi Shaun, thanks for looking in and your comments ThumpUp
If you ordered on-line, you should get your first issue in under a week, i know i did BigGrin

First Tip: When opening the packaging of Issue 1, be very, very careful, as two of the parts are very small and very easy to loose!

Gray

Issue 1:

Contents:Forward deck section, Warping winch base plate, 2x Capstan drums, Capstan head, Capstan head lower part, 2x Housings, Hull Bow section, 6x Bollards, Small Hatch, Large Hatch.

Firstly, glue the two capstan drums to the warping winch. I glued from underneath to make sure no overspill. Next, glue the two halves of the capstan head and store safely for future use.

Apply glue to the underside of the warping winch and seat it in the large recess in the upper deck. Glue the two housings into the rectangular holes astern on the upper deck with the openings facing the rear of the deck. The six bollards are glued to the uper deck in their respective holes. I had fo use a round file on one of the holes so the bollard seats properly, but that was the first piece of cleaning up i had to do.

Finally for this stage, i fitted the two hatches in their respective places, aligning the hinges.
Along with the metal bow section of the hull, this completes this stage.
